I haven't posted alot of threads so I thought i'd give it a whirl and see how you guys like the relevance. If you like it I might just make more topics. Now for the discussion at hand.

I was watching the UFC 96 PPV at my friends house with alot of other friends following behind. During the fight package for the last match (Quinton Jackson vs Jardine) we got into a console debate as we prepared ourselves to play Street Fighter IV after the fight was over. This conversation turned into something rather unorthodox, because we were talking about how the graphics of console games are becoming so powerful with the 360 and the PS3. In addition to that we also spoke about how so many great games have come out and how alot of us have barely played on the PC. We're basically using the PC for schoolwork. This was not meant to be offensive, but it turned into a heated argument when a friend of mine blew up talking about how inferior consoles were to the PC. We responded by saying that the PC is a great platform for gaming, but consoles are putting up a good show for themselves. He denied, denied, denied (ironically he has had one my friends extra Xbox 360's for over a year now and is still playing it) while speaking of how games play better on PC and how they will never be surpassed. I conceded that PC games have a comfortable feel, but I myself like to be in a theatre atmosphere (My room setup) where I can sit far away and enjoy it on my 42 inch television set since games are evolving into Cinematic experiences. He couldn't argue with that, so he went back to graphics and how the quality on PC could never be surpassed. We ignored him and went back to watch the match and soon after he calmed the hell down.

I myself believe that console games will pull ahead of PC at some point. With MS involved in the console market I have a striking feeling that MS will try to bring together the PC and the console realms into one cohesive gaming universe. This is why I really don't bother arguing with PC fanatics. I used to love playing on PC, but eventually it died out as I like gaming on my TV better. It's just my choice. I know that console games are enjoying the lofty televised hype these days compared to PC, but that doesn't mean you have to get pissed about it. If you don't like it either start a cause constructively or get on with your life.

What do you guys think about the hostility of PC gamers towards console gamers today?

I remember when the 360 came out it was more powerful then most gaming rigs out. It took a while before PC's caught up and eventually surpassed. Like 4 months which is forever in tehno terms.

Obvioslly nothing is future proof. But think of the power that a next gen console would have to have to make a PS3 or 360 look like a Gamecube or PS2.

For example look at the jump from Killzone to killzone 2. Imagine how expensive a console would have to be to Make Killzone 2 look like Killzone 1. These consoles were built to be on the cutting edge for years.

i think your both right. PC graphics well never be bested by a console because PC hardware is constantly evolving. But also he is wrong because consoles really are putting on a show and doing really well with the hardware they have. As for playing sure Mouse and Keyboard is the best but games are coming along way with traditional game pads.

In the end i think both are good. Consoles if your on a budget or PC's if $ is no object.

I totally agree. I think consoles are going in a very good direction and if they are blessed with great games by devs, then it makes console hype increase beyond measure. I believe the graphics of the next console will be on par with PC next gen if I do say so myself.

My issue is that Pro-PC gamers seem so reliant on the PC's existing greatness than they blind themselves.

The thing with me is that i've been really busy with work and school, so I really don't play much PC anymore. I barely get the hours I used to on gaming and consoles just fit comfortably when I get home.

I think PC gamers are pissed because console gamers have been stealing away developers from the PC platform for decades. I know I was annoyed years ago when it seemed that IPs like Deus Ex and Halo were being diverted to consoles and suffering for it.

Nowadays I barely game on PC at all. The platform has practical limitations even if it doesn't have technical ones, and consoles are better positioned to push past limitations in areas like human interface and local multiplayer.

On topic, I honestly think its because they feel betrayed by the industry in a sense. Just a few years ago they were king of the gaming world with every high profile 'hardcore' game always debuting on the pc first. Fast forward a few years later and it seems like the focus of a lot of the bigger developers has shifted towards the consoles. I personally know of a pro UT gamer that can't stand UT3 because he says it was made with consoles in mind first and pc's second. Not sure what he means by that since I never played the game but I'm guessing they watered down the gameplay to allow for a more casual friendly aproach.

It also shows why pc gamers usually have such a high hatred of Halo. It started the entire shift that made consoles the home of shooters. And yes consoles have now surpassed pc's in the shooter realm. Halo 3, Gears of War 2, Resistance 2, Killzone 2 and The Conduit are all a testament to that fact.

I'm more impressed with what's shown on consoles today. Considering the little ram, graphics card output, and processor speeds... the highly optimized software on Consoles and what the PS360's are showing us seems more impressive than what's being shown on high-end PC rigs... Simply because of the PC's huge advantages.

Budget gaming PCs can last over 4 years unlike the original xbox and cost you about $599 unlike the ps3 which you still had to buy HD cables and a second controller. (I know burn for both MS and Sony at the same time, heh)
