I'm sorry, but five hours seems way too short to me. It also seems to be an extremely common occurance in games recently.

I don't know how you made it through the NES era.

Hahaha.

A few years ago I went nuts and started beating Super Mario Bros. in under 6 minutes at least 5 times a day for a month or 2.

5 hours of bliss or 20 hours of grinding... hmmm...

Do you buy games based on how long they are rather than how good they are?

I find that most games aren't fun enough to sustain 20 hours of my interest.

Back then games didn't cost nearly as much. Also, for the most part, they were more challenging to play.

Are you serious? Am I just remembering wrong, here? I mean, even without factoring inflation.

In the NES era you're saying that they cost $60 dollars?  No I wasn't around.  My age is a lie.

I wasn't being sarcastic, I really don't know and I was actually asking you. How much did the average game cost? Like, how much was Zelda when it came out?

If you aren't being sarcastic, than how could you be remembering wrong?  Zelda did cost quite a bit.

I'm only 21.

How much?

Way more than today's games, even before you count inflation.

About as much as games cost now.  Your point about one game that lasted a lot longer than 5 hours has been proven.

just to clarify, i remember games being $50 dollars during the SNES era. my friend still has his super mario kart unopened, and the tag says $50 dollars.

For someone that think this game's short should read this.

Btw, good score and it can be higher if reviewer know what type of game it is. :)

Good lord, our hobby used to be even more expensive? Before the N64 days? That's insane.

$50 is more expensive for a new game?  Sounds the same to me.

That was twenty years ago, though. How much is that in 2009 dollars?

We were talking about the NES era, not the SNES era.

Like a billion dollars.

Also, the majority of games were $50, but not all.  Some could be $70 or $80.  I think Dragon Quest 4 was one of the games that cost that much (charging extra for the extra game length) but I could be wrong.
