Forums - Nintendo - de Blob wtf?

@blunty

There is a cheat to increase time and lives while playing. Check it out on gamefaqs ;)
Yes the jumping is crap & hopefully they will change it for the next game.
As for saving i had to leave my Wii on over night a couple times, kinda sux, hopefully they fix that too.

But coloring everything and doing all the missions is still pretty fun. It's an average game but since platformers are rare it's an alright purchase.

I know about the cheat but i was trying to play the game as 'natural' as possible, if you know what i mean.

My wii has started to make a little more noise when the disc is reading so I no longer want to leave it on unnecessarily

I am seriously beginning to wonder about how "hardcore" gamers are today.

My six-year-old son does not complain about these things when he is playing deBlob. Sure he gets frustrated. But he keeps playing.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

@ blunty. It is unacceptable to trash any 3rd party Wii game that has been accepted by much of it's "core" audience, even if you have a legitimate claim. Even though I am a Nintendo fan, through and through, I have become known as the guy that hates Boom Blox. Now you will always be the "I hate de Blob guy". See what you did?

I have not played de Blob because I was afraid of it being another Boom Blox. You know, an overhyped game that just isn't fun to play.

@mike

what about you? what do you think about the game?

No offense, but I don't believe a 6 year old is mature enough to realize what I'm talking about.

@amp316

hopefully, with my relatively small post count, I might be overlooked

Maybe, but don't push it.  You have a memorable name and your avatar looks familiar.

I'm not really sure what to think about this thread.

I'll start by saying that de Blob is a fresh take on the 3D platformer. Its play style is much better than the collect-a-thons that most 3D platformers turn into. Aside from Mario, I can't think of a better 3D platformer off the top of my head.

As for the controls, I didn't like them at first, but once I realized that I was a blob of goo it made sense. You are not supposed to be agile like Mario. That said, once you get used to it, you can pull off some pretty sweet walls runs and wall jumps. The remote works just fine for jumping, and I love it for the attack.

I can't believe that there are complaints about the time limit. There is plenty of time to beat each level, and there is extra time all over the place. I beat every level 100% without ever going over an hour and a half. I completed most levels with 30 or 40 minutes left on the clock.

My one complaint about the game is that you cannot save mid-level.

1) Are you kidding? Aside from painting everything, the entire game is a collect-a-thon. Styles, trees, raydians and others. The painting alone can be seen as 'collecting' because once you missed it you feel inclined to go back for it. Not that it's mandatory, but you just might as well get it instead of playing the entire level again to get 100%

2) If you totally skim through the level time is fine. Getting everything however totally eats away at your time.Unless you played the level a few times and know where everything is (and therefore have a lot of hours pumped into the game)

3) Glad to see you can spare that amount of time every sitting!

Dont get me wrong, I do believe the idea is fresh, I was a bit hooked at first but the flaws, to me,. just became more pronounced as you progressed. Couple that with me now having to do over an entire stage because i lost electricity really puts me off. There i was thinking good, i'm nearly done, I don't have to see this stage anymore thank god! Ah well.

1) Apparently, you have never played a Banjo game or Donkey Kong 64.  Those games are 10 times the collect-a-thon that de Blob is.  Those games required collecting a bunch of different things to advance in the game.  In de Blob, you don't have to collect a single thing if you don't want to.  You just need enough points to unlock the exit.  That can be done at well under 75% painted and under 50% painted in some cases.

2) I finished levels with 100% completed and 30-40 minutes left most of the time.  If you skim through levels, you can easily finish with much more time.  You are given extra time constantly.  Even if you do run out of time, I'm told that you just lose a life and get an extra 10 minutes.

3) Apparently you missed the last sentence of my post which said that the one flaw of the game is the inability to save mid-level.

Yeah it's not as good as many here claim it to be, I was almost tempted to make a thread about inflated Wii scores because it's a "decent" game. Same can be applied to NMH, Umbrella chronicles and a few others games (settling for average).

It's fun though, but it lacks polish.

QFT

I own No More Heroes, and I appreciate the game for its artistic style, and trying something different, but its not as great as wii owners claim, it bored me halfway. I Owned Umbrella Chronicles mainly because i'm a RE fan, but the game wasn't fun, and i sold it. I rented the Blob, and the controls were horrible. Yes some wii scores get inflated.

@ blunty51 Don't trust wii fanboys on this site, they like anything thats wii exclusive, they like bragging.
