They made a LOT of bad decisions
Long Live SHIO!
Agreed. The PS3 as a whole was a mistake from start to about nine days ago when KZ2 came out.

that fucking sucks. What was Sony thinking when they made you belgiums pay that much for a PS2? Only Jean Claude Van Damme could shelve out that kind of dough.

that's not true, the PS3 isn't really overspec'd. Everything else is right though.
...Sony should have launched Ps3 without bacward, whit price 479,it would have been great.
Yes it was pretty stupid thing to remove it,but customers didin't have money for it.
Take my love, take my land..
i still have my ps2 and play it still.
it didn't bother me. and it looks my ps2 will stay with me for a long time its on it fifth year and still strong.

Really? You do realize when you drop backwards compatibility, you cut off your next gen console as an upgrade strategy, right? So, when someone goes next gen, and they have a PS2, why would they NOT consider a 360 instead? You can say RROD all you want, but beyond that, why? The 360 is cheaper. Removing backwards compatibility removes a competitive advantage you have. And the cost it saves Sony? Oh, I believe it is like $40. Also, factor in that you are not in a place where you can discontinue the PS2, because it is still selling. Your marketing efforts get split. You keep production lines going that should be stopped. The PS2 becomes a ball and chain around your company. Go ahead and just stop making it. People then get stuck with a bunch of software they can't run, because you stopped making something that can run them.

*cough* XP -> Vista */cough*
anyway, hows this for a scenario:
We all know SCE has been saying for some time now "No Pricecut! Just added value!!!one1etc."
Next big anouncement: "New" SKU with B/C, memory card slots etc.

599 was not the worst movie, it was definetly the bc. here is the thing i encounter every day at work (i work at Best Buy btw). I have a customer interested int he ps3, they start talking to me about it, then they ask me if they can play their old games on it. After i say no, they ALWAYS start asking me about the other systems. By not being able to play the games they already have on it, it elminates any kind of loyalty these customers had towards that brand. They would be basically starting from scratch no matter which system they bought, so why get the ps3 when their kids want the wii? or the dad wants the 360? Ps3 loses at least 10 potential customers a day from just my store, now times that by how many game stores are out there and you will see just what kind of a screw up this was for sony.

Yeah, I can relate.
One of my wifes freinds (a rabid PS2 gamer) saw my launch PS3 and was so impressed with the media functions and whatnot she went out and bought one.
Now she's pissed that it doesn't play PS2 games like mine can, so she has to have both her PS2 and PS3 hooked up.
Sony could always say "well you should have read the box first" but a dissapointed customer is a surefire way to avoid continued business.
