IMHO ps2 compatibility will be back in 12 months - when they in glory finish 10 year old PS2 life support - they will release new ps3 model with BC.

backwards compatibility.let me tell you about backwards compatability.ive got a 60 g launch ps3 with back compat and i never once played a ps2 or ps1 game on it.its something only people who just got the ps3 use cas as soon as you play your first ps3 game you wont want to go back to a ps2 game,no matter how much you liked it.oh and ps2 games run better on a ps2.your never gonna sell or trade your ps2 in because youll only get 10 or 20 quid for it and you are upgrading from a ps2 to the ps2.there not saying bring your ps2 in and we will upgrade it to a ps3 by turning it into a ps3 by the flick of a magic wond

The worst descision about BC was to anounce it in the first place....

Most people will use BC to play games they did not have a chance to play before.... but when your console was #1, few people will be included.
By anouncing and hyping BC, they made fans believe that was something they needed.... then by removing it, they just made fans angry at something they didn't need.... they already have a PS2 after all... Casuals just don't have the knowledge to buy a PS2 game for a PS3 anyways...(why do you think nintendo is doing the wiimakes...)

For me was the BIGGEST mistake two years ago bought another ps2 over the PS3 would have jumped up if it was BC.  I am fianlly thinking of getting one 3 years later.   But now I am a huge 360 fan since I have owned one for 3 years



PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

A scenario like yours is why I'm surprised people actually disagree with Makingmusic. One of my friends had similar situation. Why pay more for the PS3 when he could get a 360 for cheaper, since neither of them would play his PS2 games. I know my roommate never owned a PS2. He got the MGS4 bundle not only for MGS4 but so he could pick up the MGS Anthology for PS2. Sony has made a lot of mistakes. I knew Sony was in trouble when my brother bought his 60GB PS3 for $600 with the Talladega Nights Blu-Ray disc and the system came with composite cables. Great way to show off the superior picture of Blu-Ray Sony....
