3) You are going to purchase a PC even if you own a console...because everyone has a PC these days, especially people that are "into" gaming. Whatever base price you pay for your PC could have gone towards the price of a gaming PC and for most people this is $400 to $600. For an additional cost that is less than a console you could have made it very capable a gaming rig.

I have an issue with this point.  The problem is that I agree with the bolded part:  everyone DOES have a PC already.  So why are you saying they'll buy one?  They've already got one.  Sure, I suppose eventually it'll die on them, but I personally know a family that used the same computer from 1998 to 2008 and only replaced it because they gave it (still working fine) to a family member who was moving out.  Not exactly a suitable upgrade cycle for PC gaming at any level (with the possible exception of browser-based games?).  This family also has consoles from every gen back to NES.

My point isn't that anyone and everyone should be into PC gaming like your example family, but that they could be if they had the interest and knowledge.  So someone who is unwilling to upgrade their computer on a regular basis is probably not considering PC gaming.

More to the point anyone who would wish to be in PC gaming is going to already have a PC and like a console gamer is not going to mind regular hardware replacements/upgrades.  Actually it is probably the opposite, they will likely look forward to those upgrades.

PC controls better than console?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Funny stuff.

What's funny about it? I can use a keyboard, racing wheel, X360 game pads, logitech game pads, etc on my PC. On top of that I can use a keyboard/mouse combo for RTS and FPS games which is vastly superior to twin analog sticks in terms of precision.

My PC is hooked up to my living room TV. I have a wireless mouse, wireless keyboard, wireless gamepads, etc... I can use it with all the comfort in the world just like my X360 and my Wii. The difference is my PC lets me do work, watch TV, watch blueray movies, burn discs, download movies/music, play emulators, watch sweet luscious porn, e-mail people, etc... I can also play games on it that look better than thier console counterparts.

For just over $1000 that's not too shabby. I mean really, most people have a computer nowadays anyways (you likely used one to type your post)

It's a troll calm down.

crysis is rendering 10x the area in level design and way more textures also its a scalable game depending on your rig obviously the best rig will give ou the best looking crysis.

all ps3 will play killzone and it does look great still the in game cutscenes and the ingame models are 2 different things.

to think a ps3 or 360 gpu can outperform the current hardware is absurd get the natural mod for crysis then compare.

Iam running a amd 5600 9800 gtx 2 gigs of ram and the game looks great on high settings.

still your comparing aples to oranges wide open landscapes to small building and coridors.

Killzones desert looks blah. and to think they took all this time to finish this game????

Iam about to beat it the multiplayer is good too.

and I prefer console's over pc because of cost and game optimization and being able to trade games back in.

still no one has scene crysis's at its best yet once direct x 11 is out and the latest video cards get thier hands on it we will be blown away even more.

I guess I took your earlier point as attempting to be more universally applicable than you meant it.  I stand corrected.  If you are assuming that the people you are talking about would be likely to update their computer every few years anyway, it is indeed likely that it would be as easy as you say to "upsell" to gaming-level hardware.

um crisis has horrible engine and scaling problems but it BLOWS kz2 away (or any console game for that matter). Sure the rig costs alot but they will find ways to use the hardware better with further code optimizations. In the end CRYSIS is just the begining of how much better PC gaming is going to look than console gaming in the next few years till the launch of the next gen consoles. And then the cyle will repeat itself

It's not that your point is invalid though, many people don't upgrade their computer and have no interest in it. I just don't think they are the type of folks who would really be interested in any type of gaming.

Overall I love PC gaming for a number of reasons but unlike many PC gamers I don't fool myself into thinking it is some superior gaming method that the peasants fail to recognize...it has its + and - like any platform and it's just another flavor of ice cream.  In the ice cream analogy I would say the OP of this thread found a brand of Rocky Road he didn't like and after consulting an amateur ice cream maker who wasn't very good at his hobby he assumed that all Rocky Road ice cream was bad.

Someone who knows how to choose the right ingrediants that go together can produce a superb flavor and it doesn't even have to be the high end brand (hmmm ice cream...guess I'm hungry =p)

I was waiting for the "But aren't PC's kind of expensive for something that's going to melt and fall off the cone!?".... which of course leads to mental images of people licking their PCs and quickly gets stranger from there

I see your slightly edited post, and something odd occurs to me: that computer actually did see quite a bit of gaming -- Starcraft and Diablo II. But they never evolved past** that. Quite a coincidence that they finally unload that dinosaur just* when StarCraft II is around the corner ...

* Well, within 18 months? Coincidence ... diminishing ...

** Not to imply that anything could possibly be superior.  Just that that's practically the ONLY two games that computer ever saw.
