Hard times for JRPG fans? No hard time for fanboys. JRPG fans buy the consoles with JRPGs. Fanboys buy consoles without JRPGs and whine about not having any JRPGs to play. Then they proceed to hit up video game forums and troll posts for the JRPGs they can't play because they didn't bother to check the release lists before making their purchase. This isn't 2005. It's obvious where the JRPGs are going at this point. Either buy the hardware that can play it, or shut up about it and give the rest of us true JRPG fans some peace.

This.

The PS1/PS2 era is over.
If you want to play JRPGs, you know what to buy.

My Gaming Setup

Well last remnant sold decent & infinite undiscovery & star ocean will probably get to 600k sales as well. I don't see what the problem is.

Does anyone think that Square should start making games that aren't RPG's or games that aren't based off their existing RPG franchises?

They are already doing the latter with The World Ends With You, The Last Remnant, and a few other games that haven't been released outside of Japan yet.  It wouldn't be a good idea for S-E to do the former though.  With a few exceptions, most of there non-RPG games have been mediocre at best.

I'll just quote myself from another thread:

Now to those people who scream "oooh SE you fail !!!".
They (SE) released the game (SO4) on the 360 for a reason. They knew it would not sell that many copies in Japan, but they surely received a bunch of money from Microsoft. Besides that the game engine was practically paid by MS. Never forget, MS published Infinite Undiscovery together with Square Enix.

The Last Remnant uses the Unreal 3 engine and SE had huge problems with porting the game to the PS3. However for a mediocre JRPG The Last Remnant sold great and you can't deny that. Even Infinite Undiscovery made a nice profit.

What now? You actually think IU actually made money?

Square-Enix almost certainly made money on IU. MS paid for the development, SE just had to publish it. Not only that, but SE saved millions on SO4's development since Tri-Ace used IU's engine.

He never mentioned NEW games, and even with that the DS has A LOT more JRPGs than the 360.

Again, I'll say this. Do you think that IU actually made money? (as the amount of money spent into making the actual game was less than the amount brought in from sales)

Square enix should get "bought" out by EA and then and only then would we see "true" multiplatform games. Oh! plus we would get a final fantasy every year next to a copy of madden.  I am being sarcastic but the reality is their last few games with the exception of SO4 are just "meh" IMOB.  So I think they are going the route of most third parties and should be all absorbed by EA so we can stop this "exclusive" crap once and for all.
