@ seihyouken...

star ocean was last week and Halo wars is next week...

360 won last week by a lot and will probably win next week by a lot.

Star Ocean 4 was released this week in America along with Halo Wars in Europe and Japan. Combine this with leftover Star Ocean 4 Japan console sales along with early American Halo Wars consoles sales and the fact that again, 360 is at least half the price in every region around the world and there is just no spining Sony's come around success this week.

360 won last week by a lot largely due to Star Ocean 4 in Japan. 360 will definitely win next week (Or at the very least it should according to Squilliam) but I sincerely doubt it's going to win by more than it did two weeks ago.

if you expected so4 to push hardware outside of japan then you are nuts. halo wars isnt a sytem seller... its a RTS. but normality will resume next week, I have no doubt.

Personally, I absolutely agree. However I think you'd be surprised how much opposition you would get if you tried to pass Killzone 2 off as a system seller above Halo Wars. I've been saying for months that Halo Wars wouldn't move systems only to be laughed at. I've also been strongly opposed when I stated that Killzone 2 had the potential to sell systems.

But do tell me, what makes you think 360 is going to be "far ahead" next week if you don't think Halo Wars will have anything to do with it?

Same question as in the Japan thread...

2 hotly anticipated exclusives = 12k lead for PS3 over 360.

good or not?

discuss...

Good given the market splits and current economy and the relative price points of the two consoles.

Taken individually since launch, and ignoring other consoles, I'd say both HD consoles have done pretty well.  360 has increased MS market share and brand awareness and seems to have survived the major blot on its landscape - RROD.

PS3 has recovered from a shaky start (due to price point) and is selling well for the expensive piece of high tech that it is.

The sales also show that, if the two consoles were exactly the same price the underlying demand for PS3 would be higher (of course that's easy to see technically but Sony have a big cost challenge in making it anywhere near an actuality).

Their combined sales show a really nice growth of HD gaming - but the fact they are basically competing so closely is making things too easy for the Wii in some ways.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Will PS3 ever beat X360 in N.America again?

With all this "buy american products" banter going around the US it wouldn't surprise me if X360 soon overtakes the wii there as well.

The really interesting thing would be (should this happen) when the rest of the world reacts and don't buy US products.

In Japan (PS3+PSP) > (Wii+DS) this week.

Wow. The PS3 is one thing, the Wii still doubled 360 weekly sales. The only times the 360 has beaten the Wii in American weekly sales were when supply for the Wii was low.

I don't think the PS3 has ever beaten the Wii in America. Not even MGS4 did it. It has twice WW, though, the European launch, and MGS4 release week.

@kantor
You are probably right kantor, the PS3 has never beaten the 360 in NA.

As for 360 beating the wii in NA - maybe you are right again.

I think I am making too much of this "buy american" debate that I watched lastnight which the debaters took to some extraordinary levels.

I have snapped out of it now, thanks for the slap.

???i just looked at the chartz and the ps3+360 have outsold the wii in america a couple times

The PS3 has beaten the 360 in NA a fair bit, actually. Much of 2008. Two things can make it outsell the 360 in NA again:

1) A price cut (lasting)

2) Gran Turismo 5 (a few weeks at best).

The 360 is unlikely to ever beat the Wii in America again. That is, unless Halo 4 is somehow released on the 360...

@kantor ^^Again I agree. I don't see that price cut happening for a while yet, though.

In all honesty I don't buy into this PS3 horrible sales BS.

Taking into account it's current price, the recession, the year and months head start of it's main rival and the fact it got to 20mil quicker than it's HD competitor presents some optimism.

Under the circumstances it is performing better than it should. I mean it should be selling like 5000 a week worldwide if all was that bad.
