Yep it's pretty stupid to compare SOIV sales with WKC and VC... WKC will sell one million WW (no doubt about that) and VC is a TRPG, much more a niche genre ...

How can you say that about WHC... its only been released in Japan and its going to sell at least 350K there... who knows what it will do WW. Valkyria Chronicles had a significantly smaller budget than SO, no doubt. It has no fancy cut scenes and the graphics really don't push the PS3 at all (although the art direction is fantastic). It also sold fairly well for an SRPG. Remember SO has been in developement since before PS3 dev kits were available, or at least that is there excuse for why it isn't on the PS3. So SO has been in developement for longer than 3 years. |
Ye I would think that those two games have a smaller budget then Star Ocean. Probably somewhere around 15M compared to Star Ocean's what 20-30M? I mean thats Tri-Ace's flagship RPG
Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.
"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.
Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi
@ShadowSoldier
Star Ocean had a budget of AT LEAST $30M, probably closer to $40M.

I can easily say that about WKC because it is not going to end up with higher WW sales than Lost Odyssey, SO4, last Remnant. Thus if these games are "major flops" then so is WKC.
And I'd argue that statement about cutscenes. I havent played SO4, only VC, but from what I saw of SO4 I'd say VC has better cutscenes. Not to mention its animated clips which sure as hell costed a lot to make. Not to mention this canvas engine developed from scratch.
Star Ocean 4 on the other hand was developed with the Infinite Undiscovery's engine which was founded completely by Microsoft. The game has also been made with the help of Feel+ (Microsoft's studio) and who knows how else has Microsoft helped with its development.
I dont like to argue about which game is a bigger flop, I'd rather argue which one is a bigger success. But I find it stupid to call 360 jRPGs "flops" while neither PS3 jRPG title has done any better.

VGchartz is correct about TLR. 490k shipped was of December 2008. |
I doubt it. In Europe you could already find it for half the price after a couple of weeks after the release, and when a month ago the shipped numbers where confirmed, VGchartz didn’t change anything. Same for infinite undiscovery which was at 440k shipped numbers.

VGchartz has recently made a lot of adjustments for SE titles including Infinite Undiscovery, but didnt touch The Last Remnant.

Correction:
That's what you hope.
The online mode could actually help it a lot in the west.

Oh, dont you mean that online mode that was supposed to "lead to a Monster Hunter effect and ensure the game has legs in Japan" ? Yeah, I remember that one.
You are taking things out of context, because you know you are wrong.
White Knight will probably will reach the magic number of 350k by the summer and with a ”The best” re-release next Christmas it could actually surpass Rogue Galaxy’s numbers in Japan. So far a success.
Online gaming is far more popular in the west than it is in Japan, and with the right promotion it could actually sell some decent numbers in both Europe as in US. The Xbox 360’s J-rpg’s also wouldn’t even reach half of there shipped numbers if they didn’t cut the price after two weeks.

And I am supposed to be the wrong one here when half of your post is:
"PS3 jRPG will if ... "
"Xbox 360 jRPG wouldnt if ..."
Whatever dude.
