Forums - Sales - I've always known Star Ocean was never a big franchise.

Everybody who thinks SO4 had a possibility to surpass SO3 sales should just go home.
SO4 did not flop, but it hasn't sold great either. However it's on a good way to be one of the best selling JRPG's of this gen. Maybe some disillusionated fanboys didn't notice that JRPGs on ALL console platforms are selling much worse than last generation.

Now to those people who scream "oooh SE you fail !!!".
They released the game on the 360 for a reason. They knew it would not sell that many copies in Japan, but they surely received a bunch of money from Microsoft. Besides that the game engine was practically paid by MS. Never forget, MS published Infinite Undiscovery together with Square Enix.

and finally just LOOOOL to that guy who thinks SO4 failed quality wise. It has about the same aggregate score as the previous Star Ocean games.

so3 sold about 2 million units. so4 doesnt look like it will see more than lo but ill still say 1mil (im being generous since lo is still 90k away from that ) se is losing about 1million in sales. unless ms paid 25million(which again being generous since devs get about 27 dollars per copy) it was a bad business decision. i say no more than 15million(which again is being generous considering the gsme probably didnt cost that much) .

Jumping in here for a minute to say this game probably didn't even cost 10 million, let alone 25. The engine, as previously stated, was paid for and funded by Microsoft, and that is usually by far the mostly costly thing(I have heard) in a game. And I doubt SO3 really got 2 million sales; in fact in the US it only sold 630k by 2006, and in Japan 533,373 by 2008.

Going by Wikipedia here, since we don't have any other sources. And I highly doubt it sold the rest in Others(could have...but I doubt it. If that is actually true then this thread shouldn't have even existed until it went on sale in Europe anyway.)

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

I'm just responding to the people saying before that Star Ocean 4 was gonna be one of Microsoft's marquee franchises for the year. A lot of people saying it was gonna sell well over a million or something on the first week.

And I said back then that those claims are delirious. Star Ocean has never been, and never will be a big franchise. It's not one of Microsoft's bombs. It's just an ordinary launch.

Who are these people you refer to?  I have found more evidence of supposed Sony fanboys calling Killzone 2 a "Halo Killer" than people who predicted Star Ocean 4 to sell over a million copies in a week.

Anyone have evidence these people actually exist?

Square-enix did probably ship a lot of new units for Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remant after those great sales in 2008. They where even generous for cutting the price after a week.

LMAO. Well played, sport.

Also Rei.

For my point to be proven all WKC has to sell in the US is over 250k. That will make over half Lost Odyssey US sales with half the install base.

If it sells 500k like LO did then it will sell 850k+, which is only 50-100k less than LO on a system with 8M less install base.

Remember once again, WKC is the first big JRPG coming to the US. It should get sales just for that.

That would prove my point really well and no amount of spin would be able to counter it.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

if I could get a dollar for everytime I read something negative about 360 jrpg's by sony fanboys.....

can't we at least wait a couple more weeks before we start judging the games sales?? I mean damn lets see how the legs are in N.America first...

if i had a nickle everytime starcraft said something negative about k2 id be richer than you

nice try.....

if you think that killzone 2 thread was worse than all the negative talk about 360 jrpgs...then I don't know what to tell you...

You do realize the only reason people get on them like that is because originally it was the 360 fans who said the PS3 couldn't sell JRPGs. Now that they are continuosly getting proven wrong it has reverted to damage control.

Continiously getting proven wrong? how? did I miss something? Is there a load of PS3 jRPGs with great sales hiding somewhere?

Read what I wrote to Shadowblind. You show me an exclusive JRPG released on the PS3.

You have nothing on me pal. Keep trying. I am bringing up fact, you have brought up nothing yet.

You have nothing but your hopes. Basically, you act as if some major PS3 exclusive jRPG has already got released and turned into a major success. But guess what? Nothing like this has happened.

But then again, isnt "Believe" a key word for PS fanboys? keep believing them, but dont pretend like you know for a fact that PS3 seels jRPGs better if you have nothing buy your hopes to prove it.

Whatever bro. I am hitting you with numbers, you know, FACTS!

You are coming back with empty words.

So the first JRPG for the 360 can sell big but the first JRPG for the PS3 can't?

Talk about your double standards pal.

Who is more credible here?

Come back when you have a real argument.

Like I said before, if exclusive SJRPG already sell better on the PS3 what makes you assume that exclusive JRPG's won't sell good either? Try answering that one. I am at least giving a valid argument, you're not giving a valid counter point.

You're toast.

lol i know. i come at people with numbers like k2 budget and they come back with rumors and speculation. i show numbers with previous so and they come back with 'your a bitter ps3 fanboy'

What facts? The only thing I see from you is your assumption and hopes that some "PS3 exclusive jRPG" will appear and sell better than jRPGs on 360. Nothing more. No attempts for a discussion. No facts.

   You're a tool.

With the cost of a next gen game so 4 is a massive flop, with no doubt.

So is Valkyria Chronicles. And so is White Knight Story.

So, what JRPGs and SRPGs this generation are selling well?  I don't see any actually.  Someone want to fill me in here?

i didnt mean how much it cost the company but how much it cost... so.. im having trouble getting what i mean out. ps3 typing is hard and breaks your chain of thought so it comes out broken. vgc shows so3 1.29 without others and brett probably hasnt updated those numbers in quite a while

I dont see any either. On consoles that is.

But apparently there is some secret PS3 exclusive jRPG which will soon appear and sell a shitload of copies. Or so I've been told.
