Eh... the PSP version was obviously in development at the same time. Are we actually certain the Wii version was "ported" to the PSP, or are you just assuming that was the case? Perhaps the engine was co-developed, and instead the games assets were merely toned down for the PSP? Seems more likely to me.

If that was the case why didn't they announce it with the Wii version? Either way it isn't a PSP>Wii port.

No idea why they didn't. Perhaps Nintendo only paid them a couple yen for exclusivity... like 2 months worth, instead of a full year.
Its fascinating to see how this is working out, though. Wii/PSP crossplats make a lot of sense, really -- something I don't think many people ever really had the foresight to predict. As the Wii becomes more successful, and draws more 3rd party titles in, the PSP may recieve a fair chunk of those titles, which could perhaps revive its software sales.
The Wii (the low-end home console) and the PSP (the high-end handheld), are remarkably similar in design, really. Single core CPU, fixed-function GPU, rendering APIs both basically OpenGL, decent chunk of memory on both... I can totally see how making cross-platform games between the two is both sensible and easy.
I like them both, personally, but if it came down to it, I adore portable gaming -- I'm gonna score the PSP version of most of these games... Tenchu: Shadow Assassins, Brave: A Warrior's Tale, Phantom Brave, Monster Hunter 3 (Freedom -- you know there will be one), etc.. all would be stellar on my PSP.
