Kinda sad the PS3 can only barely beat the 360 when 2 huge games launch the same week.

It's no less sad that the only thing you can do to outsell your competitor is drop the price significantly...

At least MS can afford to drop their prices...

Woohoo for PC market monopoly?

It'd be the same case if Sony had monopoly over TV's for example. But Sony has to compete and has lots of other factors working against them.

Ummm actually microsoft can afford to drop their prices because they are making a profit on the xbox 360 not because of windows.

Sony has never made a profit on the ps3.  In fact, it has lost more than 3  billion dollars which is greater than all of thep2 profits.

 Peace

Actually while you were banned if you would have taken that time to do a little research you would have read that the only profit that microsoft is making is on the software side of 360 and live.  They were losing 126.00 dollars on every 360 sold before they dropped down to the 199$ price point and we will never know how much they are losing currently because of the way they report their end of the year earnings.  As far as sony losing the money the got from the ps2?  I call B.S. because last time I checked they make a profit on the psp as well and the ps2 is "still" selling and has not stopped.  So the profit you are talking about has grown by times 50 over the years and helped finance the ps3 which is profitable in europe currently and soon will be profitable this year in the United States.

If you're going to correct somebody and accuse them of not researching a topic then it is usually good practice to not quote articles that have no relevance at all.  The Gamespot article is dated from 2005 so I can only assume if you think the 360 costs didn't drop in the 2 years till the price drop then you know nothing on the subject.  Also the article you quoted to show how rosy the profit situation is for the PS3 was written in 2007 and doesn't take into account the economy now and the damage the strong Yen is doing to Sony's exports.

All in all your argument is severely flawed and ultimately a epic fail (to quote others on here).

As opposed to you posting something to the contrary?  Basically it was losing cash (360 in 2005) like that to begin with and now at the current day and date it is at  half the price, common sense would say the losses are still there.  It was posted to show that everything is not rosey in the world of 360 products as well.  Epic fail is when you come in without any articles or links to back up your claim.  Basically you made yourself look like some 12 year old with the brain compacity of a squirrel's left nut..jeez are you that much a fanboy to not see my point?

I'm not making any claims or putting figures to the argument, if you wish to attack someone then make yourself look a fool then don't let me stop you.  You claimed that last year before the price drop Microsoft were losing $125, where is the proof for your statement?

Now you could act like a sensible person would and retract your previous statement towards another poster on here or you can continue talking utter garbage with no basis in fact and make yourself look even more foolish.

Again the man with no links to back up his claims, is Cmoney your boyfriend? Is that why you are protecting him?  I merely was using links that indicated that there not only were loses at the higher price point for the 360 in 05, but obviously are still taking place due to the lower price point.  Now you can say you do "not" understand and then I can just call you a "slow mo" because that is what you are.....or you can come with some links and I can respect you as a slow mo and we can keep this thread rolling.

What CLAIM????

You're the retard who made a claim and couldn't back it up as your evidence was outdated.  I don't need you to respect me, I've just enjoyed you further proving your stupidity.  You've posted nothing to backup your claims, Jagged Sac as already posted the only link to data that is remotely accurate and up to date that is in the public domain.  The only claim I've made is you're an idiot for your post telling someone about bad research and then proceeding to post information that wasn't relevant.

Wow just wow not only have you proven nothing, but it seems that education was lost on you.  The only one upset and angry is you, I am having fun with you currently because you are acting like someone has  sleep with your life partner.  Keep on posting insults, I smell another banned fanboy here at VGcharts.  Keep them coming pretty soon you will be making another account to pick fights with anyone who has a different opinion than yours.  Tell your boyfriend I said "hi"

It is absolutely catastrophic for Sony that Killzone 2, in its opening week, could not sell more ps3s. This game has one of (if not THE) highest budget of all time and Sony has been advertising it heavily. Unless KZ2 has great legs, it looks like Sony will lose money on it and the ps3 will no longer be a serious contender against the Xbox 360 and Wii.

It sold more than you think in the US. Maybe not a HUGE amount but definitely several thousand more at least.

I posted this in another thread and I am pretty sure someone posted it here.

Considering how every single console and handheld dropped from the previous week in the US are you implying that without Killzone 2 the PS3 would have been the only one to not decrease? I would say that is good news for the PS3.

If your not implying that then you would have to assume the Killzone 2 boost was actually more than just 13k.

Thanks to Smeags for the charts.

ConsoleLast Week
This Week

146,125 115,117
94,783 76,794
54,718 66,003
51,760 46,549

PS3: +11,285
PSP: -5,211
360: -17,989
DS: -31,008
Wii: -72,235

I know it is not 13k, it is 11,285, but that is the number the person I was responding to used in that other thread. He was talking about WW. Which I still think wasn't 13k but whatever.

Also if I am not mistaken, didn't sales drop across the board for the other consoles in Europe+Others as well?

This is probably less likely but still also a possible scenario.

XBox360 sales may have dropped by more just 17,989 without the release of Star Ocean 4. If I remember correctly the game sells well in America, so even it could have shifted some consoles to offset higher losses.

Even if it did sell several thousand more.. the ps3 was still outsold by the xbox 360 this week. That's horrible for Sony when their heavily-advertised "halo-killer" can't even put them ahead on its release week.

with only 4 days worth of data in my book that is pretty good.  Killzone was only out in america for 2 days in the data that was posted. I would wait for sony to release the correct numbers in a couple of days.

It is still much higher priced than the 360 in the US and much more in Europe. If PS3 sales without KZ2 would have dropped by at least half the 360 sales even with SO4 you are looking at at least 20k consoles moved in the US alone. In Europe 360 dropped by somewhere around 20kish, so by same logic you add around another 10k units moved for the PS3. Still moved anywhere from 40-50k more units. That isn't bad at all.

You can look at this many ways, but it is far from a bad launch for Killzone 2, it did indeed move plenty of systems and software sales were actually around what most users here predicted.

Who is calling it a Halo Killer? Gamepro?

Wrong. Other than MGS4 which released on a Thursday and Killzone 2 that released on a Friday most, if not all games release on Tuesday in the US.

If you can show me where I will gladly admit I am wrong. I still doubt anyone thought a sequel to a mediocre game was going to outsell Halo 3.
