Codemasters wants 'gamer's games' on Wii, finds other publisher strategies 'bewildering'

Codemasters has a couple new execs talking about the publisher's "cautious strategy" on the Wii -- and, by "cautious," they mean making titles that appeal to core gamers. UK General Manager Jeremy Wigmore and Marketing VP Alex Bertie tell MCV that Codemasters "can't ignore Wii," despite the publisher's emphasis on next-gen titles.

Bertie finds it "bewildering" to see what other companies are doing with Nintendo's juggernaut. He expresses that Codies isn't going to make "cheap, crappy ports" and expects the company to produce "gamer's games." Wigmore believes that other publishers constantly going to retail with a "mass-market product" only makes those games become "white noise." It'll be interesting to see if Codemasters retains its thinking about Wii after Overlord: Dark Legend releases in a few months and the publisher starts seeing sales figures.

Not that this is a particularly shocking revelation, but I completely share his view.  I mean, with all the crap software the system gets, why have few realized until recently that they can be successful if THEY are the trendsetters?

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Off topic, but you realize that a miniature version of your icon is completely blotting out Mario's eyes in your signature, right? It just looks weird. :P

I don't know this company very well, but I like what they have to say! What games do they have coming up on the Wii besides Overlord?

Bring 'em on!!!!!

Like Rol said, they have several racing games in development, in addition to Overlord.

And whaddya talking about?  You can DEFINITELY see his eyes... somewhere...

Funny how Joystiq is already predicting the game will fail to sell.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

This is what joystiq does, little jabs like this are customary. This issue was by Swilinski, who isn't that bad about things, James Ransom-Wiley, however, is intolerable in his open contempt for Wii, as is Jem Alexander (though she is a bit more understandeable, since she used to work for the PlayStation fanboys before the merger)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Excellent.

I was already looking forward to Overlord: Dark Legend. Now I'm going to make sure that I pick it up soon after release.

'Gamer's games' or 'hardcore' games don't equal good games. So no developer should make those kind of games just for the sake of making those kind of games. Just make good games and we'll all be happy. :)

I will take Overlord and Dirt 2 as their Word. I like a lot the ovelord look and gameplay, and Dirt is a good game, but never seen on Wii. Now as an aditional quality promise, we haven´t PS2 versions, and that´s means they don´t make any bad port, and more dedication to Wii version.
