I think for PCs, this will increasingly be the case. In part because productivity software is going to drive it -- not gaming software.

But I think for consoles and handhelds, it will quite a while (decade plus) before this happens. The infrastructure in the US could not handle it, let alone in other places in the world.

From what I hear, the broadband infrastructure in the US is among the worst in the developed world. Even when comparing big and dense cities. I expect DD to catch on in Europe earlier than in the US, not to mention Korea and maybe Japan too.

Unbelievably your right.

Internet access speeds in the United States are terrible and relatively expensive.

Its amazing to think that one of the most powerful countries in the world and its biggest economy puts up with a third world IT infrastructure.

If you dont live near a major city in the states its a problem for speedy internet access.

This is unfortunately a consequence of being a relatively new country with the population concentrated in major cities and spread rather thin elsewhere.

Who wants to bring Fibre optic speeds to Biddlyboing-Idaho when only 500 people live there an its 20 miles away from the next town.

Around the Network

i rather have the physical material itself.....i'm tired of deleting data by fault, loosing data and having corrupt data....

movies and games = physical copies for me

as for music(wma,mp3,aac) and pics(jpeg, gif etc), download >>>>>>>physical copies

@Cypher1980: But as I said, from what I've heard it's not that great in big cities either (at least not consistently). I was very surprised when I saw the prices for broadband in the US. It's more expensive than in Europe, and not as fast in most cases.

Yes Im not to sure why its so expensive. It may have something to do with monopolies enjoyed by local providers.

Remember the UK prior to deregulation? You used British Telecom or you didnt have a phone.

Well imagine how expensive broadband may be if that was still the case.

As for the low speeds that is just inexplicable.

I could if I wanted get 8 Mb/s in my home for less than 10 GBP / 15 USD per month.

The best I can currently receive is 20 Mb/s for 15 GBP / 23 USD per month.

At that speed a 7 GB game would download in 45 mins

wow not bad.. in the middle east a 16Mbps line would cost you $140 per month :)

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.
