I dont know if anyone else on this forum is having this issue (and i didnt see if this was posted anyone...so if it was im sorry) But Yesteday after getting early i ran out to EB Game and received my Metroid Prime game. I went home and eagerly placed it in the Wii. A quick update later i was ready to play..or so i thought. I was greated with a "unable to read disc" error. The cd is brand new...no marks on it....WTF?! maybe a defective cd? So i took it back and got another one.....AGAIN! the same error. Now all my other Wii games play fine...soooo WTF?! I called Nintendo about this issue..they said i could either return the cd and get another or send the wii in for repairs. Well today i see on the Nintendo forums that a few more people have this issue. Anyone else on here having this problem?

It is a Disc Reading Error that is most likely your Wii. Have you played other games on it?

yes, all my other games work fine. The Nintendo rep said they know of the issue and are working on a solution....probably with an update. I dont understand how most Wii werent effected and some were.

I know the new Wiis are different, they are manufactured in China and the have some minor differences with the launch Wii. So maybe all the new Wiis have some problem reading it. That's all I can think. When did you buy your Wii?

I got it from target on Dec 28th. I dont know if that would be consider an old wii or new wii.

They are DVD:s, not CD:s (4000 Megabytes difference per layer).

Anyway, i'm going to make a couple assumptions and guesses, so this is only a guess, which i see propable.
I assume that MP3 is the first game on Wii, that uses Dual-layer discs. Nintendo may have different suppliers for the laser heads, and some supplier have supplied defected heads, which don't read dual-layer discs as they should.
That's why i think, other games so far have worked. It fixes only by replacing the head. Or maybe it reads, but sends an altered signal forward and in that case it could be fixed with system update.

Eh, I've actually had Disc Reading Errors on a few games, including Wii Sports, Zelda, and Rayman Raving Rabbids once.

It happened to Wii Sports twice, and the others once. I don't know why...I pulled the disc out, noticed perhaps a tiny, tiny bit of scratches or smudges, wiped them off, and it worked fine.

I think it's my Wii that's the problem...but as long as it plays the games.....

I think your Wii must be to blame as well...I'd try cleaning the disc, leave your Wii totally off for a few minutes, and then try again...if that doesn't work, you may need to send the Wii to Nintendo...

I bought my Wii just over a month ago and my Metroid works fine.

I know its a DVD, but cd just roles off the tongue for me. I didnt know they started dual layers games for the wii. Sadly your explaintion sound more likely...I hope they can fix this problem via an update..no matter..ill play a beta till then..hehe
