Anyway, no, it's not overrated for me, it may look like crap now, but it's still a fantastic game with one of the best stories, an excellent cast of characters and a terrific battle system. It's not the best FF (that's Tactics), but I have no doubt it's one of the best games ever made

I think its over-rated, FFVIII & FFVI are much better. But FFVII is still a great game.

Unless we're talking Resident Evil 4... all games are atleast a little over rated to me...

For being considered by many to be the best FF(or even RPG altogether), yes I think it's overrated. It's still a great game though and did bring a lot to the genre. I could do without a lot of the games that have tried to be too cinema-like and feel more like watching a movie than playing a game though. However, I doubt there's a game that created more fans of RPGs than FFVII, and for that it certainly deserves credit.
