Forums - Nintendo - IGN Reviews Sonic & the Black Knight (Ruh Roh!)

Ehh. I was going to say things similar to what Gameboy is saying but I think he has it covered. I'm sure IGN isn't worried. It's fairly likely that the next time they give a Wii exclusive a high score, no one will be complaining about things like the author using the word "retarded" in the review. Seriously, what a minor thing to complain about.

And so what if the score is so low? Would it make much of a difference if the score was some other random number, like 4.8 or 5.2? The game would still be "meh," at best. These days, with dozens of high quality games coming out, who wants to buy below average games anyways? I'm struggling to finish old games and balance new ones like Killzone 2 and No More Heroes (the former is a planned purchase, the latter having already been purchased).

I realize that a lot of die-hard fanboys were excited for this title, and that's fine. But so far I've only heard two reviews (an 8/10 from Nintendo Power and this score from IGN). So, which should I trust more? Nintendo Power reviewing a Wii exclusive or IGN? I'm sure IGN has so oh-so-terrible bias against the Wii, or just this random reviewer.

Meh.

I included the Nintendo Power information as a balance. But if you are worried about its credibility, in the same issue Deadly Creatures got a 7.5 and NASCAR Kart Racing a 6.0.   I have generally found its reviews to be fairly balanced and accurate -- it even mentioned control issues with Mario Power Tennis New Player Control and that's a first-party game.

So if you are asking me who I believe, Matt or Nintendo Power, I will go with NP. Still, I would like more information.

Also, I doubt people are sick of all the Mario spin-offs. Of the seven Mario games that have been out a while on the Wii, only Sluggers is below 1M (960K) and only Sluggers and Strikers (1.94M) are below 2M.  Meanwhile, Sonic sales have struggled this generation (except when with Mario) regardless of what game-play approach is taken. They have generally been better on Wii though with Secret Rings going over 2M. My guess is this game will sell 1.5M regardless of what Matt says/thinks.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Waiting for the guy who says every Wii owner hyped this up to be a AAA.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Heh.

Oh, Cassie. Why is a Wii hater the Nintendo editor?

BTW, classic Sonic isn't really about pure speed. It was bursts of speed, but there was also a lot of plodding and exploring different routes. The DKC games were actually faster, in that you could approach the levels at breakneck speed. With Sonic you had to control his momentum carefully or you would die constantly.

Thank god there are people who thinks classic Sonic wasn't just about speed.

Classic Sonic = Speed + Platforming + Exploration + Multiple Routes.

that really looks like they want to hurt the game.... 3.9 is very low on IGN.

I'm pretty sure you had a random character instead of sonic, the score would have been 6.9 and not 3.9. The guy seems angry at the speed of the game not being sonic speed...

... and he sure does hate "waggle"... why does this guy even review wii games??

Because there is a difference between intuitive, well thought and well done motino controls and tacked on waggle.

true, but the term waggle is not really used by fans of intuitive, well though and well done motion controls... it's more used by wii haters.

That said, he would not coment on it if those controls were as you say intitive, etc...

If I were reviewing the game, and the wii controls weren't any good. I would do readers wrong by not pointing that out.

Doesn't seem to stop reviewers on games off of the Wii haha.  You know what I'm talking about.  But oh come on dude your just agreeing with Matt because ya got a thing against the Wii.

My problem with the review, though isn't the score, but the way it was presented.  Shouldn't be about Matt's ideal Sonic game not being present but how the game actually is.  Can't get that from this review.  All you get from this review is a grown man whining.

What? I agree with Matt just because you say I'm biased? Couldn't I turn it around saying that you disagree because I think you're biased? That's just stupid.

And I haven't said I've agreed. I just think it's funny that people are so selective in which reviews they listen to.

That's what I remember from the games (I played 'em at other houses, since I didn't have a Genesis then). Claiming it's all about speed is doing the series a major disservice, because they are claiming the series needs to go back to it's old style, but they don't remember what the old style actually is.

So claiming this game takes the speed out, when that was not what the series was really all about, is kocking something for a flaw that isn't really a flaw.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Also, I've seen videos of the Black Knight. The speed is there. So why are people claiming the game has no speed?

i got it and the boss battles are terrible, but the actual game is pretty fun so far.

The speed is definitely there for sure. However, there is a larger focus on defeating enemies this time around, which is still very fast paced and action packed. It's definitely not a bad thing I'd say, fast speed that we all know and love mixed with fast action. I find it to be a rather rewarding experience, but that's just me.

What a piece of shit.
