Unless we're positive of KZ2's budget, your point is moot at best. We need figures, not guesstimations!

I was hoping you would say :)

We'll we do have some official figures. Almost 3 years ago when the game was meant to be coming out with the console Guerilla gave an interview to Volkrant (main newspaper in Holland). On 28th November 2006 they said

"the game will cost more than the most expensive movie in the country, Black Book "

http://www.digitalbattle.com/2006/11/28/killzone-ps3-info/

At that point that meant $21m. So in almost three years and with the amount of delays it has had being pushed back, with 120 programmers working on it we can assume those costs increased not decreased.

So the final numbers we will know when they release their company notes to the stock exchange. But until then it looks unlikely the game will have brought Sony any profit, in fact if the $60m number is true (very doubtful) then they could be making a huge loss on this one.

woah woah woah ... killzone 2 was not suppose to be a launch title. get your timeline straight.

Sorry i think you misunderstand what i meant. I meant  to be coming out on the console not with the console. But if we want to get the "timeline straight" then it was meant to be released around the european launch in march 2007. After the gameplay trailer shown at e3 2005 everyone assumed that would be when it would be released. If you disagree with that then you obviously have bad memory of 2006-07. Then after it failed to appear it was confirmed the game had slipped in July to Q1 of 08. Then that turned into Q4 08. Which was then changed again in May 2008 to Q1 in 2009, and here we are. So was 1st show gameplay trailer in 05, almost 4 years ago. Obviously the game was in development long before then to be able to show that at e3 05.

So now that has been taken care of and the pettyness settled, anything else?

^ like cgi said all you have are assumptions. k2 never had a launch window till nov last year. then it was pushed back in favor of r2. long in development before june of 05... are you kidding? gg had 2 games till late 04 and a psp game till late 05 in the works

^^
Someone has a bit of a different tone than has been seen over the last 3 to 4 weeks.

Killzone 2 is selling all right, but with an approx 80 Million dollar budget, they need to sell like 8 Million copies to make a profit!

damn, sony got taken for a ride only making 10 bucks per game sold.

I think its funny how this whole thing evolves....KZ2 sells very well in others and probably the states so we cant say it failed commercially....so we shift our focus to dev cost.....which nobody even knows and argue it until we are blue in the face...only on vgchartz.

Once KZ is OFFICIALLY profitable it will turn to not moving hardware so the game sucks. then if it moves hardware it will be "not because of killzone its other factors" then when people realize its a culmination someone will bring up how the PS3 fails compared to the PS2 so sony sucks.....then the world implodes.

KZ2 does very well on launch. Should have good legs if COD4 and WaW is any indication.

To be fair to the other side, there has been some absolutely ridiculous predictions for this game though.

@CGI

Probably the same couple of people who were chain posting the greatness of KZ2 over and over to the point of.....

Well, you get my drift.

^ yeah man 10 dollars per copy... that means devs only get like 6 dollars and publishers only get 4... geow profited around 1,750,000 copies then

Off topic.. KZ single player progression question.
