Forums - Gaming - Does buying a game does give you the right to be CRITICAL of it?

You shoud have he right to talk crap about a game if you bought it and it failed to meet your expectations...but their will always be others who would wnt you to se things the way they see them and if you disagree with what they think you will be flamed....

I voiced my opinion on Killzone 2 and I bought it...and people still flamed me :p not so harshly though others saw my point of view

Yes, it does.

When it comes to things like visuals and various options in the game, you do not even need own it to criticise it.

This

For example, if PES comes out on Wii & doesn't have master league, do i really have to play it to be critical of it?  There are so many games on Wii that are stripped of modes that even ps2 versions of the franchise contained.  So, NO, u don't have to play a game to be critical of it.

OOPS! Wrong thread, ignore this!

Yes. If I buy a game with my own money, I should be allowed to hate it if I so wish. On that note, I really disliked Kingdom Hearts.

Oh no you di'int

lol

I think, even if you haven't bought the game, you should be able to say why you don't intend on buying the game. I did so in another thread on Halo Wars. I started by saying that this was only based on the reviews I have read, but it seemed like it was a good RTS for a console. However, it was also simplified compared to the PC RTS games.

Oh, I would've just said "Because it's a console RTS. Sure, it may be a "good/great" console RTS, amongst the others, but it's still a console RTS and barely anybody buys those. Chances are, most people are only buying it because the word "Halo" is in the name. Command and Conquer was "good", Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution got an 85 on Metacritic, etc. etc., but those sold miserably. However, since this has "Halo" in it, it's going to sell billions" in a thread like that.

If those are the terms of being critical of the game, then that should be completely legit. In terms of gameplay, if you own the game, and experience it, then being critical in that sense is also legit. But if you've never touched the game and say "Oh it's crap" then no, that shouldn't be allowed

Everyone has the right to be critical about anything they want. Their opinions are based on what they know. It's just that the people who have played a game are more informed and more likely to have more detailed opinions.

However, owning something does not make you unbiased. In fact, owning something usually polarizes bias in one direction or the other.

You find where I got on him for Failzone and i'll admit you are right. Only I highly doubt you will ever find it.

If you do your part and actually read it from the start you will see I ONLY got on him for not properly clarifying what he meant when he said "How is 15fps alright for an fps" and that PS3 fans comment.

You will also see in that very same thread where I myself said that it is understandable that no game is liked by everyone and people have different opinions, something him and I did agree on.

The guy corrected himself and clarified that it drops to 20 fps (not runs).......
