Forums - Sony - MikeB´s Killzone 2 review (sp campaign)

@ Kantor

I thought that game was lacking in polish, which KZ2 certainly is not.

Agreed.

The 8 player co-op is great, but the campaign is crap

The vast majority of reviews hailed its single player campaign, I rather agree with those. "Crap" seems an exaggeration to me nomatter if you like the sp campaign or not, unlike Halo 3 and Left 4 Dead which have lacking single player campaigns IMO you are not screwed with Resistance 2 at all if you're not online (About half of 360 owners can't play online games, due to not being subscribed to XBox Live gold, thus IMO reviewers should give bigger penalties for that).

I would agree though both Resistance 1 & 2 are relatively slow starters, gaining far more momentum as you go forward.

IMO Killzone 2 provides a must-try-experience for its single player campaign alone.

I just don't agree with your tone and sentiments in a more general sense Mike.

OK, but that's something else. I know I didn't put on gloves when talking about below industry standard reliability regarding the XBox 360 for at least the first years. I still feel I shouldn't have, as in hindsight internal Microsoft emails put forward in court shows they knew about RRoD and disc scratching issues before they launched the console, so personally I don't regret those statements at all.

IMO those who were / are upset about my past complaints regarding their practices are just blind fanboys. I know this caused a lot of hatred against me amongst some vivid 360 supporters. But nearly all their defenses for Microsoft (and in cases abuse against victims) IMO in hindsight have proven to be completely unfounded.

I think he was referring more to your thus far inaccurate assertions that there was any major differential between the power of the Xbox 360 and the PS3 and that the PS3 would make some sort of sales comeback.

Such as your originally impossible and now fanatical belief the PS3 would sell 140 million copies.

I note here that Sony recently downgraded their "ten year plan" to an "eight to ten year plan."

IMO we are near the tipping point with regard to both cases. Remember the bulk of 360 fans laughed at me when I said the PS3 would start to outsell the 360 after Halo 3 and yet this happened.

Of course I agree pricing is still an issue (yet the PS3 still performs solidly). IMO just try Killzone 2 and remember the developers told you there's still a lot of untapped potential inside the PS3.

why is everyone downing R2. Cant KZ2 and R2 both b good?

i love R2's SP & MP , ithink most just cant understand the complexity of SP because the manner in which its told. CO OP is the shit too! the other modes are just ok, i dont like them as much as i did n R1 tho.

Greatness Awaits

PSN:Forevercloud (looking for Soul Sacrifice Partners!!!)

resistance 2 is good, just not as good as some reviewers (i think) thought it was i.e. 9.5 from ign is too high IMO. Should be in the mid 80s

Well, as everyone says, the graphics are phenomenal! The gameplay is meh and just an average shooter (talking about campaign). The online is VERY fun though! So far after just 1 hour and 40 minutes I am almost to master sergeant, have 135 kills and only 80 deaths (1.68 k/d!), 35 headshots or so.... I mean, this is when playing by myself! If I could get an actual squad together of people I know and are all good at this game, it would be amazing!

Oh, and seriously, twestern, you closed my thread because of "all the kz2 threads" and yet I see like 5 more since then. Mine was even a thread for everyone to post their reviews so these solo reviews don't pop up everywhere.

I fixed it to coincide with the general opinion :P

Not crap, then. But mediocre. Nothing special. Underwhelming.

The graphics, I'll be frank here, were bad. Insomniac are meant to be good with graphics. Tools of Destruction looked amazing. Resistance 2 was grainy and blurry. Killzone 2, however, looks incredible. Call of Duty 4 looked and played better than R2, and it's a year older.

The potential was there, but the execution was a little flawed. Not enough focus was placed on the actual shooting, and more on the massive arsenal of weapons and giant enemies, both of which were great. Although I prefer having more than two guns at a time, in a game like R2.

Skirmish was a mess, Team Deathmatch was your average Team Deathmatch, the competitive really wasn't very appealing. The co-op is where most of the replay value lay. Shame KZ2 lacks co-op

Halo 3's campaign was certainly not crap. Far from it, it was better than R2's. It had polish. It was fun. It was well designed. Not KZ2 good, maybe not even CoD4 good (ignoring the length), but very good. The graphics were probably better than R2, but nowhere near KZ2. Left 4 Dead's single player was only bad because of the abysmal friendly AI.

But I agree that Killzone 2 would be worth full price for the campaign alone.
