Yes most crap games don't get sequels, although this has happened before. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 (NES) was total crap with TMNT 2 (NES) was quite good for its time.

Killzone 2 is the fourth game developed by Guerrilla Games, not the second. Killzone was not their first game, Shellshock: Nam '67 was. Guerrilla doesn't deserve much credit for getting it right on the fourth try. Sorry. If you all want to legitimately congratulate a Sony studio that went from a poorly received first game, to a fantastic second game, your answer is Media Molecule. They went from the PC exclusive Rag Doll Kung Fu, with a 69 Metacritic, to Little Big Planet, with a 95 Metacritic. That's a difference of 26. Give credit where it's due. Edit: Also what's with the tag line of overcoming the odds? What odds did Guerilla Games overcome? Do they hire handicapped people and the team's physicial or mental handicaps were something they had to overcome to make a great game? All I know from them is that they were thrown a very generous budget and got help from numerous other teams to create Killzone 2. Those don't seem like overcoming any odds. |
This.
Media Molecule made one of the best platformer experiences on any consoles hands down and it was their first game with Sony not third, and took half the time to develop that awesome game.

It's great that GG seems to have turned around their developing for the better and whatnot but a lot of this really needs to stop. We are happy that they didn't repeat what they did with the first Killzone but that doesn't mean they created the next godly franchise. A little modesty didn't hurt anyone guys. Guess I'll just have to play it to see what all this fuss is about but whatev. |
Shut it Zucas. You haven't played (at least not extensively, but it's been a bit since we talked) it.
And I disagree with he said, I think it's better than Half Life 2.

The difference Half Life made for FPS games and the genre as a whole is why Half Life is put on a high pedistol, it's like saying Half Life 2 is better then Golden Eye but Golden Eye is held up so high because it did so many things for it's time. And should be judged vs shooters of it's time not years later.

Why can't I compare past shooters versus current ones? I think Perfect Dark is better than the entire Halo series. Regardless of what any game did for the genre at the time, I still think I should be able to compare......
I believe that Sony brought a lot of developers in to work with Guerrilla during the development process, and also gave them a ton of money to augment classic game design with stellar graphics and first hand knowledge of PS3 architecture.
In other words, with everything they had going for them, a 9.2 game was expected. The game doesn't innovate, it doesn't perfect, and it isn't anything worth talking about from a benchmark perspective, besides console graphics.
Half-Life 2, and to a lesser extent CoD4 have done far more for the genre, and progressed it in several ways, this generation alone. Even Nintendo has put out far superior FPS games in the form of the Metroid Prime series, as far as innovation goes.
These guys aren't necessarily "great" developers. In fact, it's a laugh to compare them with companies like Valve. Putting out a graphics based FPS with a very generic narrative, and no innovation is what we usually flame developers for.
They have proven that they have the potential to not be mediocre. Mentioning them amongst names like Naughty Dog, Nintendo, and Valve makes me f'n sick.
Saying this game is better than Half-Life 2 is nothing short of sacrilege(or ignorance), and it angers me greatly. People saying that, ruin their credibility, and are probably PS3 fanboys(or perhaps only played the PS3 "port" of ToB?).
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.

Dune vs Dune 2
Tekken 1/2 vs Tekken 3
Zelda, The Adventure of Link, A link to the Past, Link's Awakening vs Ocarina of Time (the 1st 4 were good, but Ocarina is just Epic in quality and popularity)

Let it go man - Killzone 2 is a great game. Not everyone see's Half-Life 2 as the universal pinnacle of FPS. It's not sacrilege, or ignorance, it's their opinion. You should play through the campaign in killzone 2 with an open mind - you might be surprised.
Correction, CAPCOM made history....................
Street fighter 2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Street fighter 1
