(in my opinion) very very very unlikely - Nintendo (no matter which team) is (as far as I know) held in very high regard by everyone: gamers, publishers, devs, magazines, websites, normal customers

Zack and Wiki is proof that Nintendo steals all the software sales for themselves. It should have sold millions™ by now.

ok.... I'm not talking to you any more

While Deadly Creatures certainly doesn't scream AAA-quality game, it should certainly serve as a breath of fresh air for the people craving a more mature game, than what people perceive the Wii games to be. Based off internet hype alone (not to mention the amount of people who talk about the drought in Wii games), this game should certainly have sold better than 10k in its first two weeks, NA and EU combined.
Of course, then there is a game like House of the Dead, which had some actual advertising, and perhaps a broader appeal as well (HotD being an old franchise, and zombie shooter possibly being more attractive than a game where you play as creatures feared by a lot of people), which sold 80k over the same two weeks.
I think you have a point, but you are still off the mark. I think a lot of developers/publishers are holding back, out of the risk they could be taking by ending up as Deadly Creatures, and I think the real test will be to see how MadWorld does in the coming weeks.

'Chu talking 'bout, Willis? Of course they've encountered a system just like the Wii before; it's called the Gamecube, remember? Oh wait, we're talking about third-parties, huh? Never mind, they've never encountered anything like the Wii before. I honestly have no idea what your post is trying to say.

I was being sarcastic. The way the thread is going, it looks like people are blaming 3rd party devs who worked on the Wii.
But these people, who got first hand experience on developing Wii games, would be the ones who would share their (good and bad) experiences to future dev teams. I'm not talking about the Wii's graphics, of course, but the experience on creating motion control-based games.
Even the first-stringers won't always get it right at the first bat.

I thought that was the case, but I wasn't completely sure. Sorry for doubting you, mate.
| RolStoppable said: You are looking at this the wrong way, you only see graphics. Developers of Wii games can create gameplay never seen before which is more important. If you think of the most highly regarded games of the past, they usually have one thing in common: they are remembered for their gameplay. Hardly anyone remembers graphics or technology. The pride received for achievements in graphics lasts a few months, achievements in gameplay last forever. |
I wonder why people who downplay graphics and sneers at the "graphic whores" don't look in the mirror more: there's such thing as an "input method whore", you know?
Input devices, graphics, CPU power, they are all _tools and means_ that devs can use to express their art or simply their craft.
Take away means, and you're taking away possibilities. Sometimes you play along the limitations and you come up with great results (great movies were filmed without sound, or in black and white), but sometimes some works of art and craft can't be done without the right means (Fantasia without sound? Zhang Yimou's Hero without colors?).
I don't care about having 1080p or 2160p, but give me any day enough graphics and CPU to have the wonderful facial expressions of HL2, that convey feelings as no game before (and I can't wait for Heavy Rain). Give me enough CPU to have good AI with natural responses, to generate huge worlds, to simulate weather or interaction between magic spells or the accelerated growing of alien plants.
And ask yourself what would have been of Zelda: OOT or the Metroid and Mario franchises if Nintendo never had the graphics or technology to bring them to vibrant 3D worlds.
The lack of wii support has more to do with developers not having confidence in a new user interface. But that is changing fast.
| Rei said: So basically, your advice for 3rd parties is to follow the biggest install base out there completely ignoring the actual differenses between PS360 and Wii gamers. |
Nen gen doesn't mean only casual games. It's means a new way to play. So that is no contradiction.
cod waw its out for ps360 and wii... it sold much more on ps360... this is why 3rd party devs work more on ps360... as simple as that... want to change this? go streaking or some thing like that!
by the way... in top 20 best selling wii games ... 15 or so are from nintendo... a hint... stop buying nintendo games so 3rd partys have some room...
