I thought galaxy was a very impressive game. I really enjoy it and personally it's my fav so far across all 3 systems. Until the next Zelda gets released or by some miracle Square Enix announces that they got the dream team back together and they will be releasing a Chrono Trigger for the Wii with Crono as the main character of course.

The pure joy that I felt playing Super Mario Galaxy was something that I hadn't felt since I played Pokemon Fire Red back in 2005. Anything that can just plain make me happy has to be the best game of the generation so far in my opinion.

However, there are some other great games like Sins of a Solar Empire, Twilight Princess, Mass Effect, Portal, and Zelda PH that have impressed me as well.

Sins of a Solar Empire has a Star Trek mod coming out soon, so it may overtake SMG as my favorite game depending on how good it is.

I enjoy a lot of games, in a lot of different genres, on a lot of different consoles, but so far Mario Galaxy has been my definitive game this generation. It moved me like no game has in a long time.

Let me put it this way. I usually have trouble waking up in the morning. I'll sleep until 11am on weekends if you let me. But when I was deep in Mario Galaxy one Friday night, I played until 3am, went to bed, then woke up at 7am with the music still drifting through my memory. I got Mario's final star that morning.


And can we talk about the storybook/Rosalina sub-plot for a second?

I know a lot of people weren't too crazy about this. But for some reason it really spoke to me. Her whole story is just a metaphor for dealing with loss and growing up to be responsible for yourself and others.

Mario games have always been about light-hearted Alice in Wonderland escapism in terms of story and content, and Rosalina's story added some real-world gravity to that idea. You can escape into imaginary worlds of whimsy and fantasy and star bits, but you still have to be responsible and deal with life. I'm struggling to put into words how great this is.


I read an article months ago (probably on Gamasutra) that referred to Rosalina's story as mature content. And I have to agree. Who knew that a Mario game would be so esoteric and poignant?

I would say yes Mario Galaxy is the best game so far this generation. Tales of Symphonia 2 and Uncharted Drake;s Fortune are close behind. I have a feeling once Uncharted 2 comes out that will be the best game of this generation.

By the way I still prefer the music in Chrono Trigger. It is not the high production soundtracks of the CD and DVD eras but is just more memorable to me than other games.

Its Little Big Planet

Little Big Planet's pretty good fun, especially with a few friends, but I just can't say that it measures up to Galaxy.

Even if you do slap each other constantly while running around. Heh.
