I see a difference in Microsoft's ToS compared to all the others:

Create a Gamertag , avatar or use text in other profile fields that may offend other members. This includes comments that look, sound like, stand for, hint at, abbreviate, or insinuate or relate to any of the following: profane words/phrases, topics or content of a sexual nature, hate speech (including but not limited to racial, ethnic, or religious slurs), illegal drugs/controlled substances, or illegal activities;

XBox Live - Of a sexual nature is a really vague term under which stating your sexuality is wrong because it can be interpreted as being of sexual nature.

PSN - sexually offensive With that term stating you're a lesbian doesn't violate the ToS because it's not offensive.

XFire - sexually explicit or sexually suggestive Same as above, lesbian is neither sexual explicit or suggestive.

Impulse - promote or advertise sexual or pornographic material or websites Here again lesbian doesn't cross the lines of the ToS because it's not sexual or pornographic material.

So what I'm saying is that under their ToS, Microsoft was in every right to ban the user but it seems they are the only ones pushing it this far.

Actually, you cannot say that lesbian is not sexually offensive because it is to a lot of people. Whether or not any word is sexually offensive is up to every person themselves. If someone finds it offensive then they have every right under the TOS to report that person, that is the entire purpose of the TOS and reporting abilities.

Like you said what is sexually offensive is different for everyone so it's up to the companies who run those services to define "sexually offensive" and there's no way those companies can get away with defining lesbian as sexually offensive.

Um... yeah they can.  It's 100% legal, too.

LMAO, there is no way they can get away with saying lesbian is offensive? Sorry, that's exactly what they can do. They can deem anything offensive and inappropriate on their privately owned service.

Um... yeah they can.  It's 100% legal, too.

I'm not talking legally. The amount of bad PR that equating lesbian to sexually offensive would generate would be very damaging to any of those service.

I still don't think it's right. I find it incredibly stupid to get banned for saying you're straight, gay or bi. There's nothing offensive about saying that.

No it wouldn't at all. The majority of the population may accept people being gay, but they still do not accept them in every single way. Just look at gay marriage, most people are still against it and probably always will be. Plus, it has already been proven that it had nothing to do with lesbian, it had to do with violating the TOS, where even saying you are hetero had the same effect.

You can think what you want, but it is not up to you or any of us. It is up to each individual company to decide for their own service.

I think this requires another test. Can somebody with an XBox Live account change their profile to say "I have sworn off sex for life" or "I am a born again virgin" or something like that? Those comments are as sexual as "I am a lesbian" or "I have male human genitals, known as a penis."

Even better would be : "My wife and I are trying to have a child" it suggest sex just as much as "I am a lesbian"

You must be a dangerous perv!!! Innocent babies, storks and cabbages make you think about SEX???

Wait there, we're getting off track. My argument was that the other services couldn't reasonably ban someone for stating their sexual orientation because of how their ToS are worded compared to Microsoft's.

It's a liability. Opens up lawsuits possibilities. Minors use XBLA which complicates it.

Putting the burden on the company "we define what's offensive and what not" is dangerous because it means the corporation has to decide what's offensive and what is not, which means a world of hurt. Specially when we are talking about global services... sensibilities are a very tough thing to deal with.
