Forums - Sony Discussion - Joystick is in love with lair!!

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/27/lgc07-lair-hands-on-impressions/ "As far as gameplay goes, we only had a chance to play a flying section, but it was very enjoyable. The SixAxis controls felt great -- which surprised us, since the controls had received the most negative press. Flying around as a dragon was incredibly satisfying as we could feel the weight of the creature when swooping down or pulling up further into the sky." "We were immediately impressed with the visual quality of the game. The effort put into the character models and environments are evident, though there are occasional framerate drops. (We only noticed one framerate dip during the 20 minute play through and it was over within a second or two.) "

I could be wrong, but I thought that many of the reviews dogged Lair because everything except the flying sections were awful (in a simialr way to how they were disapointed with Rogue Squadren 3) ...

as ive stated before the reason for the mixed reviews on this game are because of the controls.. some people like em some dont.. joystiq seemed surprised about the controls because of the bad rep they were gettin

This doesn't seems like a bad game, but certainly is not for everyone. Sure Factor5 knows how to do some good aerial battles.

Good thing they did good with the gfx and sixaxis implementation.

Also, IIRC, because the flying sections became repetitive very quickly.  So they got to play a single level and liked the graphics, I think the thread title is a bit too upbeat.

I'll rent this game, but definitely not a purchase unless I fall in love with it.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Same thing with kotaku http://kotaku.com/gaming/sony/sloppy-seconds-+-lair-292997.php

Got to wonder wtf were the reviewers expectations ?

I am glad Kotaku liked it. They are usually the most brutally honest about what is good or bad with a game from my experience.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

The difference between these two hands on gaming sessions and the reviews?

The reviewers have played the game for more then a half hour. So i'll take there word for it over someone who has played it for 30 minutes. I've played plenty of games i've liked in the first hour or so, then ended up hating after the gameplay gets stale or new things are added that drags down the game.

LOL did i miss Sony making a gravity simulator in their controller, or this person is a weak human who can't hold the weight of a ps3 controller for more then 5mins.
