This rumour has been going around sinse the day the PS3 was released, obviously it's just a rumour and will always be a rumour sinse a PS3 without a blu-ray drive is like a car without wheels, this is just ridiculous and stupid.

this is why people who don't know anything about gaming should not write articles about games or its consoles....

What if the article is hinting at a PlayStation 2.5? One that can't play PS3 games, but has the graphical and processing ability to make the PSOne and PS2 games look better? This could be their answer to backwards compatibility...otherwise, this article is just nonsense as other users have said.

I got a call on Monday from Reggie Fils-Aimé, and he told me Nintendo will officially make all new Wiis without the compatibility of Wii Optical Discs.

Here is an exact quote from the conversation.
