I think this video will put paid to naysayers on both sides.

It is clear from this that Killzone 2 has a very slight but noticeable graphical advantage over Gears of War 2.

It really shows what can be done with double the development time.

you think the UE was made in 2 years????? LOL

the first pics i saw of the UE was before the 360 was anounce

GeOW2 textures > KZ2
KZ2 lighting > GeOW2.

I feel the same about it in fact.

The (fanboy) question is : What is the most difficult to develop

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

We all know KZ2 looks good, but it suffers from a broken aiming system and by far the worst controls out of any console FPS ever. It controls like a side strafing tank, on a sea-saw with loose wonky aiming. The analog sticks feature a 3-4stage progression of speed in a way that leads to jerky controls, and this is seen in every single video ever shown for the game.

Well it is not quite clear to me...

well the topic was regarding the game engine, if you have a look at the video its quite clear.

All right, I don't want to push the debat further but this video shows the engine.. from a KZ2 perspective (very first person FPS).

In GOW2, you have almost a mid-3rd person view so the battle perspective is totally different.

I wouldn't say the comparaison is biased... maybe a bit clumsy...

IMO (if somebody asks me), GOW2 engine is way more organic and it support the art style of the game (while KZ2 is more industrial ...).

I'm sorry I just don't agree with this.

Setting KZ2 > GeOW2 comparison aside, that statement is so confusing. Do you understand that even if it is a 3rd Person view the camera would be getting the same scene except from a different view. That wouldn't affect much lighting/effects would it?

Excuse me?  I didnt say UE was made in 2 years (though UE3 might have been).  I said Gears of War 2 was made in two years.

IMO it would of course. The attention to details and settings is totally different .. maybe less for lightning...

It is especially true for the "bullet impact" and "grenade" test.

Is it really hard for people to admit that Gears is not the best looking console game to date? Is it really that big a deal to give credit where credit is due?

Also in my opinion, when you factor in animation, physics, lighting, etc... is far from a "slight edge".

In Gears, if I was to shoot a hole into a gas canister what would happen? It would explode right then and there right?

In Killzone what if I was to shoot a hole into a gas canister? Damn right! That fucker will go apeshit crazy all over the place. It also varies depending on where the bullet hole was made.

Look at the portion where Marcus is riding that big thing in the air during that cutscene. When it crashes into the ground you don't even get so much as a bump. I am sorry but that is the worst I have ever seen. You don't have smooth crash landings... thing looked like it landed similar to an airplane with it's landing gear deployed.

In Killzone 2 it is done right. When the aircraft crashes it doesn't land smooth, it bounces, it rocks around, it does what it is supposed to do.

It isn't as close as some choose to believe.

Many are looking at just the pretty pictures and ignoring everything around them.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Also to add in another point.

When you kill a locust and it falls down into debris, a door, etc... it is nothing close to what is shown in Killzone 2.

WHen an enemy is killed a Killzone 2 and crashes into a door or debris, etc... it reacts to those obstacles in front of it. If you also pay attention to videos of Killzone 2 you will see that sometimes when a Helghast is shot and falling down they try to grab onto stuff to keep themselves up. Things like these are non-existant in Gears of War.

These kinds of things also fall into the "Graphics" debate. I find it funny how it is always ignored and all people care about are textures.

Once again, this is my opinion, but I am confident in saying my opinion is spot on.

Also worth noting.

Not only does Killzone 2 win in this comparison here, it is also a 2008 demo build vs a retail release of Gears of War 2.

If some think KZ2 looks good in this video go check Dec 2008 vs Jan 2009 KZ2 comparisons.

This game is only going to look better when it is in our hands this Friday.

By the way, I just want to point out that I do love the Gears of War (GeOW) series and I think the graphics are great. Don't think I am hating on it, I am just being honest. I think it may be possible to say that textures and such look comparable, but in terms of everything else, it is way behind and this needs to stop being ignored.

So it can imitate a bit what the Source engine can deliver from the physics side. Good point but no revolution here.
