When did crystal ball = not being mentally retarded?

Many are expecting a shooter not a RTS, no amount of solid reviews will change that. I also hear the advert has no actual gameplay in it which simply shows that MS are hoping people do not even look at the back of the box cover and simply purchase.

@ kantor...

many ways to look at this though isnt there...

a mildy hyped RTS (somewhat niche genre) against the most hyped FPS (most popular genre) of this gen for the PS3 (equall if not greater hype than Gears 2.

If halo wars wins that I'd be shocked...

KZ2 needs Call of Duty 4/waw numbers to justify the ridiculous (mainly internet admittedly) hype.

Anyway my kz2 arrives tomorrow morning.... already on its way.

The way I see it,

Halo Wars

+Halo brand name

+Microsoft advertising

-Console RTS

Killzone 2

+First person shooter

+Pretty damned good advertising

-Not much of a fanbase.

It comes down to whether the Halo brand name can make people buy a console RTS. I'm not expecting 90% returns or some crap like that, but you have to admit that some people still think Halo Wars is an FPS. Halo Wars should have the edge first week, but I think Killzone 2 will win in the long term.

I'm pretty sure it can do CoD4 numbers.

@Kantor

Few people may be confused at first but I don't think they will actually BUY the game without noticing... it is not serious .

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

So thats that then... ms have released a rts hoping that people buy it thinking its a FPS.... genius. listen to yourself... its nonsense.

and only some one mentally retarded would think there will not be a hell of a lot of used copies on the shelf within a week.

thats a summary of what you just said RPG.... its just weak.

Oh I am sure MS wanted to have a TRS do well on consoles, Halo name would certainly help the cause. However of the 2 million that downloaded the demo the number who thought it was a demo? I am sure many shitted bricks followed by a good ol' "WTF is this?"

Like I said by what has been said of the advert there is no gameplay shown which simply shows that MS do what to trick a fare few people.

This thread deserves some sort of massive face palm image. Or some sort of massive fail image. Or just a massive picture of a big pile of shit. Because that is what this thread is.

Halo Wars could be a hardware selling title and help sell some X360s and bring some PC RTS gamers onto X360 band wagon.

Console gaming is considerably much cheaper than PC gaming. PC gaming requires upgrades to be able to play the latest games. Console gaming requires no upgrades to play games for 6 years or more of consoles life

In regards to lifetime sales of Halo Wars this game should easily sell over 3 million copies.

How is it a fail of a thread to assume that due to a misleading ad campaign people will assume it is another FPS?

if R* showed commercials of a game showing a man killing people and stealing cars and at the end called it GTA people would assume it was a traditional GTA..

but wait... that's that GTA that's a RTS with the same name..

Predictions.

1. Wii will never reach 50% market share.

2. Kz2 will sell 1.3 first week 3.5 LT.
Sales predictions for 09.

Wii - 69 - 72
PS3 - 32 - 34
X360 - 39 - 41

Even though this idea may be misleading consumers. Halo Wars should be marketed as a FPS game and that would help its sales a lot.

I like how the commercial says, "Free trial on XBox Live". Not a "Please do not try our game because we do not want you to know what type of game it is."

I don't think that many people will be confused by Halo Wars being a RTS. The Demo has been downloaded what, 2 million times? They say on the advertisement that there is a free trial to try out. Microsoft obviously wants people to try out this game. Are they trying to trick people into buying Halo Wars? No, IMHO they are not. They are confident that if you try out the game. You'll want to buy it. It's hard to show good game footage of a RTS within a 30 second commerical.

Which brings me to my next point, don't most advertisement divisions test out their product before releasing it? It makes sense doesn't it? Take a bunch of volunteers, park them in a room. Show them a bunch of commericals for the same product and ask them what they think is best?

Clearly, if they've done it. Those people must have thought this commerical we see today is best. Anyway, thats just my thought on the subject.

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?
