What about VC and Disgaea 3, or how about Eternal Sonata. WKC was released at the peak of the holiday, and it recieved HUGE marketing from Sony, given their lack of JRPGs, they had no choice but to go all out, this was their Gears of War 2 for Japan to capitalise on the holiday period. The IP excuse just doesnt hold, this game has blown away ToV sales, which is a comparable or even bigger franchise

Regardless, a business is here to make money, but to make money it needs sales. Lets not lose focus here, ive just explained how the 360 was a cheaper and easier choice, hence they will make MORE money off every copy sold than they wouldve have on the PS34. How can you ignore that

In fact youre quick to say that the game wouldve sold much better in Japan on PS3, yet you cast doubt on it in NA? Double standards?

Regardless, you have a point, but im just saying that its a lot more complicated than saying the PS3 has a bigger userbase in Japan

You know Disgaea 3 hurts your argument right?

It is an SRPG, fact is they sell less.

In the US it is only 20k behind Vesperia, about half of The Last Remnant, about 3x less than Blue Dragon. Yes Lost Odyssey has sold over 500k there but it was also advertised, as was The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery.

Guess how much that niche SRPG recieved? None that I know of, yet it is on par with the JRPG releases on the 360 in the US.

Now if an SRPG can sell that well in the US on a smaller userbase no less, just think of what a high profile JRPG can do.

Eternal Sonata is also a very very weak argument bro. It released over a year later.

Valkyria Chronicles is also an SRPG, which do not sell as well as JRPG. It has sold 350k. That is only 100k behind IU, 200k behind TLR and past Vesperia. Scratch that, Vesperia has not had its EU release yet. Although same goes for Disgaea 3, which will be published by S-E, that should increase sales for it.

Remember once again, it is a very niche genre which sells less than JRPGs.

You really just hurt your argument really bad just now.

Not sure how long you have been here, but it is well known that you can not directly compare SRPG to JRPG. It is as weak of a Japan RPG comparison as you can get.

And yet IU and TLR have done extremely well in all regions = S

You like to look at the worst case scenarios for the 360 and the best for PS3? Again, double standards. You do realise that ToV on 360 has beaten every other PS Tales game in NA, i can say that Tales is also a niche game

360 managed to sell 30k on IU's launch week because it was launched alongside with a price-cut. And a few weeks before that 360 has been selling like 1-2k consoles.

Not sure how to take this comment, but are you saying this as a good thing for SO4 or a bad thing?

I am saying that 360 managed to sell 30k hardware on IU's launch week because of the price-cut and not because of the game.

Interesting point. I think the 360 has gained greater acceptance, its not surprising anyone anymore with a solid lineup of RPGs hence the reason why TLR did so little for hardware

PS Tales games are missing US data here at VGChartz so you can not say that for sure. Is there a link stating that? If so, that is fine, but you still made a mistake in comparing to SRPG.

As for double standards and putting everything in PS3 favor and not wanting things good for 360 take a look at this.

Please go multiplatform, only so that fans of this game have a better chance at seeing a sequel.

I just picked this game up so at least I have done my part, I just wish games like this would get more love.

Straight from the Valkyria Chronicles wall. I can't believe for the second time this week someone called me out without looking into my posting history first.

*sigh*

I just want to see my RPGs get as much love as possible, it is far from playing favorites.

Then let us look at this thread.

As a long time fan of the Star Ocean series I would like to see this game put into more gamers hands.

To me this does not look ilke double standard, it looks more like consistency.

Don't worry, I know you're fairminded! I got called out for appatently be one-sided last night, so I know how ya feelin :)

This is still great news for the 360!

I am going to be picking this game up after work today hopefully. I love the character designs in this game. In the Star Ocean 4 screenies thread I saw some pics that made me want this even more.  I am seriously digging the cat-like female character with the giant claws.

I think you Sony Defense Force are just missing the point, even if they want to put this game out for PS3 they wouldn't be able to, because they would still be in development. Many of the developers for Japanese games said times and times again, the reason they make games for the 360 is because the SDK for the 360 was ready to go while the PS3 one was not.

So look at it this way, with the 360, the game is out NOW instead of a year from now. If you are so hard up on Sony, then by all mean wait for the game to come out on PS3. But stop this stupid argument that 360 "ruin" JRPG sales for you. The genre has became very niche just like many others genre from last get.

I think people are forgetting the possibility of this game having good legs. ToV and BD both had awesome legs, so it's possible that a supply-strapped SO4 could see very good legs, and double it's sales over it's lifetime.

Let's give it a week to see what happens to it's legs before passing a lot of judgment.

As for hardware, the 360 is experiencing diminishing returns, as the average sales per week is picking up. Every console sees this. If a Wii game launched, and sold a similar number of software units, it may not see a boost at all. If you look at the hardware sales after a 'big' software title launches, you can see that as the HW install base grows, it takes more and more software units pushed to equal a hardware spike. This is normal, folks.

Now, having said that, I think the 360 should see hardware sales over 10k for the next 2 months, or so. 2009 is blowing every other year out of the water for the 360.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

But there's a very simple thing that all the games you didn't mention having good legs have in common with SO4, they all have the Square Enix stamp on them.  I really don't think you're going to see legs on this one just like the other SE JRPG's for every system.
