He as well as I am/was/were/are talking about metacritic or gamerankings. You know, all the reviewers. And TOV wasn't that great...
It's my pet peeve, but: AAA =/= 90+ on metacritic.
But even if you want 90+ JRPGs, there's still a lot coming besides the two Final Fantasy's, especially on Wii:
Kizuna
Arc Rise Fantasia
Muramasa: Demon Blade
Tales of Ten
Dragon Quest X
Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga
Some of those definitely have potential to become great.
And current gen releases for Kingdom Hearts, Suikoden and Shin Megami Tensei have yet to be reveiled.
JRPGs are moving onto handhelds. Get with the times. If you aren't playing on a DS or PSP, then stop complaining and buy one or both of them. It's only going to become more and more saturated on handhelds and less on consoles.

Dragon Quest is AAA.

There is no other way to find out whether the game is AAA or not other than to look at its metascore.
- Looking at sales figures is not an option because the gap between certain jRPG titles (FF, Pokemon) and other games in the genre is way too big.
- To judge it based on opinions of hardcore crowd is not an option either. Such debates can last forever.
So: AAA = 90+ metascore. Simple as that. There is no reason to make it more complicated.

In reality AAA games are simply those games that receive the biggest budgets, the best developers and are most of the time part of a high quality series. Aka the #1 products of the industry. As a result of the bigger budgets, those will most of the time also receive high scores. But if RE5 scores lower than 90 on metacritic, it's still undeniably an AAA game. It's pretty weird to think otherwise.

Every system has its flaws. It's not like I am saying that metacritic always gives you the right idea of how good a game is. What I am saying is that there is no better way to judge whether the game is AAA or not.

So far thats good considering KH2, FFXII and Dragon Quest 8 came out late in the consoles's lifecycle or were sequels to games already released in that generation. Also, of course, the Final Fantasy's aren't out yet (Versus and XIII).
Consoles Owned: XBOX 360, Wii, DS and PSP.
If we are simply doing meta 90's, then I think other than FF XIII, V XIII, the VII remake, KH 3 for the PlayStation 3!!! most of the jRPGs do not really cater to western reviewers, which is the key thing if we are looking at meta
