Forums - Gaming - Gears and not God of War deserves the acronym GOW.

Alright, say Gears of War wins and gets to keep the GOW acronym.
What are we gonna call God of War now? GoOW? That's just stupid. God? That'll just cause even more confusion.

Are you guys seriously suggesting that we spell out three words in full every time we want to refer to God of War!? GTFO.

For those of you glancing over this thread in bewilderment and disgust that this argument is actually happening, you are not alone. Take notes. Keep a list of the participating names. These are your fanboys and fangirls of VGChartz and yes, this is how far their biases go. Next up will be a valid discussion piece on those that think jelly should go on top and those that think peanut butter should. Nah, I don't think that could top this. At least Darth Tigris got it.

For those of you glancing over this thread in utter bewilderment and incredulation that anyone believes the OP and his associates are serious, you are not alone.  Take notes.  Keep a list of the participating names.  These are the boys and girls of VGChartz that succumb to the likes or rick rolls, failures and ROFLLMAO's. Take comfort at least, in this.  No matter who you are, and no matter how badly you screw up, those people who's names you just took down will forever take themselves more seriously than you do.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

I say we go with "Cogs of War", since cogs are sorta like gears, or they go hand-in-hand, you know, and then the acronym is more distinct.

Its settled then. GoW == God of War. CoW == Cogs/Gears of War.  Another critically important issue resolved, at last, by beer.

@Khuutra - I already presented by stance towards google being used in this argument. It is completely moot. Gears came out two months ago. Wait till God of War comes out and re-test the theory.

Type GOW into wikipedia. The first thing you see is a 1939 novel called Grapes of Wrath. Second is GOW. The third is Gears. Also, type in MK in google...the first that has to do with games is Mortal Kombat. Also, I was not referring to you when I said that the reason for this discussion is 360 fans.

@Onyxmeth - nice tag. Why do you have to come into a perfectly decent argument and stomp all over? I was actually quite enjoying this disscussion, but will not return to this thread because I don't need the hate. Peace and love to you all, use the damn acronym for whatever you want...

Gears, a shooter - which is the reason people like me prefer it, sells much better than God of War...YAY.

....You realize that Wikipedia is only one particular source, right, and doesn't have actual discourse in it save in a very limited, non-searchable way?

If you want to do research on this sort of thing you would do a search for "GoW" at the major gaming forums around the net and then take a sample size of, say, a few thousand posts from the past three years, selected at random.

Believe me, there are ways to do it, and you could even chart out the way things are changing over time.

And yes, sales will have a lot to do with the usage, because it means more people using a given acronym. Gears may win this fight just because it is so much bigger.

That we are having this conversation is proof that that isn't true, not in every case.

Not necessarily. I know lots of gears lovers who use GoW to represent God of war not gears of war so until someone cares enough to do the research, we can't say for sure.

This conversation is proof that Squilliam can successfully launch a thread that claims 360 superiority to the PS3.  As previously p[ointed out and even confirmed by him, he just wanted to point out the sales numbers as if that proves anything.  I could easily point out that game A on PS3 outsold game B on 360 but that doesn't mean the PS3 game is better and deserves anything for it.

When people talk about God of War, they always use GoW (unless you are Starcraft in some other thread about it just because he's trying to prove some point).  when people talk about Gears of War, they sometimes use GeoW, GoW, or Gears.  When talking about the game in spoken words, they use Gears.  There's very little chance that GoW will not be used for God of War in the future.
