....You realize that Wikipedia is only one particular source, right, and doesn't have actual discourse in it save in a very limited, non-searchable way?

If you want to do research on this sort of thing you would do a search for "GoW" at the major gaming forums around the net and then take a sample size of, say, a few thousand posts from the past three years, selected at random.

Believe me, there are ways to do it, and you could even chart out the way things are changing over time.

And yes, sales will have a lot to do with the usage, because it means more people using a given acronym. Gears may win this fight just because it is so much bigger.

Not necessarily. I know lots of gears lovers who use GoW to represent God of war not gears of war so until someone cares enough to do the research, we can't say for sure.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler
