That's not true, firmware updates can fix bugs and enhance performance among other things. But in this case you're likely right.

This is why you should buy Wii Play with your Wii. While Wii Sport shows and trains you what the motion sensors do, it is in Wii Play where you learn how the IR goes.

Remember my first time playing the Wii, I found Wii Play to be much harder to play and control than Wii Sports. That is until you find the way your supposed to point at the sensor bar.
