Forums - Nintendo - Dead Rising Wii flops in Japan, no reviews yet. Does Capcom know it's crap?

Why is it bad when they sell 30% of what's available on one day?

They surely don't want retailers to sell out during the week so I presume they supply them with a number they consider to be more than necessary.

So 30% of what they supplied on day 1 seems pretty good.

No, you really want to try and sell at least 50% of your first day shipment on the first day. Especially with hardcore games which have bad legs.

The 360 version sold better overseas than in Japan. They don't take well to sandbox games there. And Capcom didn't expect it to sell a lot, or else they would have shipped more.

Plus this is a WII GAME. Why do you people ALWAYS FORGET you can't use opening sales?

Now the game could still sell poorly (as Okami unfortunately did), but claiming it dead on the first day?

I don't care if you hate it. That's outright ignorance of a pattern that has shown up again and again.

There is a track record of Wii titles not published by Nintendo having legs in Japan ?

Now that's new information....

It's not new. You just didn't bother to research.

Just from the million sellers we have these games that had legs (which is not selling constantly, as even Nintendo only has a few games that do that)

Mario & Sonic had legs (you wrote published by Nintendo, which this wasn't)

Rayman Raving Rabbids

We Ski

Umbrella Chronicles

Cooking Mama

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Why did they port a 3 year old game in the first place?

First day sales in Japan: 6,400 units (30% of its shipment).

I don't know what Capcom's expectations were for Japan sales, but the fact that there are no reviews yet probably means Capcom doesn't have confidence in the game.

Much like games from shovelware companies, are they not sending out advance copies to reviewers in the hope that people won't realize the game is crap until too late? They did say they expect 500k sales in total.

More and more I want this game to fail. The hopes that it ends up being a decent title look like wishful thinking at this point.

i cant stand companies shitting out gimped games.

they could have done a good dead rising game on wii, which would ave netted good sales.

although i love my ps3 and lesser extent 360, if i was in it for business id just make quality wii games.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

As I said before, I don't think that the wii can sell regular games, call it trolling if you want, I don't care. If you're looking at numbers, here is what sells on wii:

- nintendo games
- casual games
- and of course "famous" games.

Define regular games for me.  Not acquainted with that terminology.

Anyways I don't think Capcom no it's bad because it probably isn't that bad.  I find it funny that most people wanted this on the Wii and knew that it would have to be downsized a lot from the 360 version yet that's what they criticize it the most on.  Isn't when it comes to the Wii it's supposed to be about how it controls not how it looks or characters on screen.

By immediately judging it for what you knew wasn't going to be in it you automatically set yourself up for failure.  However it's hypocritical how you Wii fans have done it.  Not one of you have complained about the Conduit in relation to how a 360 or PS3 shooter looks.  Why does it get leadway when Dead Rising didn't.  Because it's a Wii exclusive?

Wii fanboys have really been making me angry lately with their incessant whining and blatant hypocrisy over such things... especially this game.  YOu ask for the core games and criticize them for coming despite knowing they would have to be downsized to fit Wii.  When most say it's about the controls all you seem to care about now is the other things which you knew would be downsized.  Then Dead Space comes and doesn't have any downgrades and takes a new approach and you complain about it not being a direct port.  It's childish, silly, and hypocritical and it is getting annoying.  Stop complaining about everything and giving me a bad name as an actual Wii gamer.  If you don't like it fine but no need to complain like it is everyone else's fault and not yours.  Capcom gave Wii owners what they wanted... a port of a bloody 360 game.  You know how it would come if it did and if you don't like that realization then don't buy it.  But stop being disrespectful to everyone else when it's your fault.

Now sales are not great but I can't say I'm surprised.  Don't think there was a lot of hype for this game over in Japan.

I haven't seen many people from Capcom say anything like that except Sven.

For people who supposedly complain they sure seem content with putting games like RE4 and MH3 on Nintendo systems.

RE4 is a port and MH3 probably cost Nintendo a shitload of Saki, karaoke and Yen. Like i said in another thread MH3 is probably going to be the most expensive 3rd party Wii title yet.

Meant the GC version, which was the superior version last gen.

Are you kidding? The PS2 version was much better than the Gamecube version!

I hope you are joking.

I think the problem with saying Dead Rising will have legs is that unlike every other game that has them, this one will likely not come with good word of mouth, which is what causes a game to have good legs in the first place. Let's take the likeliest scenario based on what we know thus far about this game:

1. It'll probably review very poorly all across the board.

2. Those that buy it expecting something along the lines of the 360 game have a good chance at being highly dissappointed.

3. The game has horrible word of mouth going around the internet at the moment.

This can trickle down to some early adopters buying it and not passing the word along because they don't like it. Your forum knowledgeable Gamestop staff won't help push the title because they read and contribute to the kinds of things that are written on sites like this one, all negative things. Like most M rated games for Wii, Target and WalMart will take this off the shelf after a month or two unless it performs very well intially, which it most likely will not.

I just don't see this one having legs at all for the reasons I've stated. I know most is based on assumptions, but I've kept them as realistic as I propose they will be as this title plays out.

Heck the so called legs for most Wii titles ( outside of the 4 Wii big titles) is usually just new Wii buyers purchasing games with their hardware purchase, issue is when you sell 400k Wii a week, even if only 10% of them gets CoD:WaW or Carnival games that's 40k sales for those.

Problem is that with 20k sales a week in Japan, if 10% of the new owners buy a game, that is not even going to make a blip on the sales radar.........

Ail's right. Japan's Wii software sales have been the most front-loaded of any region. The only third party game I can think of which pulled  off a long tail is Taiko Drum Master.

@Zucas: Did you watch the trailers before writing that? The problem is not that it doesn't look like the 360 version. In fact if that was the only shortcoming of this game it would look much better.

@Regin
Fix your sig you failed on your guess.

It's too bad that people aren't sinking development time into Wii titles. Hopefully a non-Nintendo game will pave the way. I have to wonder though if the supposed 'hard-core' Wii base is just a myth. Look at COD:WAW on Wii. It's agruably one of the best 'hardcore style' games, yet after 10 weeks it's only sold 850k copies. I seriously wonder if developers want to take a 'chance' with a truely inovative Wii title. We'll see how it goes.
