You're off on SO1 by a bit, going by VGChartz anyways. Your first comment makes me wonder then why in the hell they would re-release the first two on Sony platforms and then only release the follow up title on a platform that has none of the other games and none of the fanbase. Shouldn't they have re-release the first two on XBLA instead? Makes very little sense to me. |
They was a trailer in SO2 wasn't there, about SO4, kinda strange don't you think.

For downplaying the power of handhelds to sell games over consoles. Remakes can sell good while being on a handheld. ¬_¬

I wasn't trying to downplay the power of handhelds, nowhere did I even mention that. I was only pointing out a fact, that it indeed did not outsell the first week of the "last game in the series" which was Star Ocean 3. The handheld remakes are not part of that discussion as they are not "the last game in the series".
Catch my drift?

To me it was a dumb move to go exclusive. They would have had much more success if this game was multi, considering where the fanbase was.

I was using Famitsu numbers, not VGC, for all 5 Star Ocean titles.
Also, the PSP is not the Playstation, it *is* a different fanbase, although close to eachother. That's like arguing why the DS got the Final Fantasy remakes, while the Playstation 3 is getting FFXIII in Japan.
And yes, they should have released titles on XBLA, but I wonder if they weren't strongly considered due to size limits.
Star Scream - Monster Hunter Portable destroyed Monster Hunter console, so why is it that we can't assume that handhelds have power to sell a title? I mean, Radiant Mythology 2 for the PSP destroyed ToS2 for the Wii - it outsold it in 2 weeks. So why is it that the SO remakes have absolutely no bearing in the argument?
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

FF13V will make more money multi. Valkyria Chronicles would have made more money multi. MGS4 would have made tons of extra money going multi.
Whenever you use that argument, remember it goes both ways.

I honestly do not where you are trying to go with this.
Yes or no question. Is the PSP remakes the last Star Ocean game in the series? Answer is no.
That is the point I made, I have no idea where all this other stuff is coming from.

I wonder if Sega's attempt at making Shining Force more action-orineted on the PS2 have resulted in confusion and rejection.
As a reuslt, people who want SRPGs now think "Fire Emblem" instead of "Shining Force."
That might be why first-day sales were so low.

But it wouldn't be the same type of game as PSP. PSP focused heavily on local multiplayer, and that's not going to happen with PSU2. Apples and oranges...
