Forums - Website Topics - Microsoft is helping Nintendo to win this war???

blue dragon has sold considerably well and has had great reviews in japan and decent in US, i think the attachment rate of blue dragon i s like 40 to 50% over there

We have yet to see how lost odyssey will push it, right now its in fams top 10 most wanted games

BTW they are not new IP not when they have the FF creator himself at the helm, as you can see attachment rates with blue dragon, his games will sell and very high, now only if the user base was a little bit bigger

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Because the Wii had a philosophy that did sony a winner once, the PS1 and PS2 philosophy.

Make it easier for developers.

Make it cheaper for the people.

Make games for all kinds of people, not only for hardcores.

What do you think?

I have something to say about this, a lot of the expanded audience games came from 3rd parties. I'd also like to point out when the original Playstation came out it was EXPENSIVE not cheap by any means >.< the PS2 was much more consumer conscious in it's pricing and PS3 kinda went back to the way PS1 started.

Final-Fan - I don't mean to make them out as bit-players so much as I mean to point out that they haven't got a shot at being the big player. In comparison to what their competitors have managed in the past they've done nothing truly significant in this industry, and nothing indicates that they are on the path to changing that. Least of all their own actions and words.

solracbrit - I didn't miss what you said. I said that despite that, their influence on the eventual winner is minor. You made this thread pointing out that they are helping Nintendo win the 7th gen war, I pointed out that Sony and Nintendo have a hell of a lot more to do with it than MS. Our statements are NOT mutually exclussive. I'm not sure, with three itterations of the same statement, how you still failed to understand that point.

LtoK - So? Nothing else in the country sells, what's your point? The 360 has one, and only one, game worth buying in the minds of Japanese gamers. That doesn't mean it'd have done well on a system with actual competition. In fact, all that it means is that Blue Dragon is one of the very, very few reasons why Japanese gamers even consider the thing to even exist.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

I'm not sure that GTA can be responsible for the success of the PS2, with the most sold GTA game being what, 6-7 million units?
The sole reason for the PS2's success is the success and initial shock of Playstation. They invented 3D console gaming and had a multitude of fantastic franchises that were sure to surface on the PS2 as well.
MGS, FF, GT, RE, TR, RR, Tekken and a bunch of others made up the most solid spine of any gaming platform ever, so it's a no brainer that people were anticipating the sequels and the follow up to the Playstation.

As for Nintendo; they always did go their own way, and I respect that. But they have a tendency to refuse to embrace technology, and this will harm them over time as people become more and more enveloped in technology in their daily lives. As they expect their stereo's, tv's and other appliances to deliver modern and sharply, they will also demand and expect consoles and PC's to do the same.
The Wii is a stroke of genious right now, but I can't see it lasting (no I don't hate ninty, I grew up with them and own a NES, SNES and a 64...).
People say that PS3 has no chance because numbers are low, and they clearly expect the Wii to sell as good or even better than it does now for years to come. That's slightly unrealistic imo.
Rememeber at the Wii and PS3 launch when the whole world (practically) said that the 360 was sure to win simply because it had sold the most at the time?

Well, you are welcome to disagree, but I think you have the message just slightly off. I think Sony's mistakes are certainly as beneficial to Nintendo as their own good choices. I just don't think MS's choices, good or bad, are as influencial in who is going to win this generation as the first two factors. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

Let's be honest here, it's Sony's mistakes that really even allow MS the opportunity to damage them to begin with. It doesn't matter how much MS bites at Sony's ankles, it's still a two horse race and those two horses are the ones that decide how this ends. Until MS finds a way to not be outsold by a more expensive machine they just aren't a big enough force here. Really, if you've got to undercut the competitor by 30%, spend millions on exclussives, and put out several AAA titles to the competiton's 0 and you still can't beat them by more than a small margin you've got troubles.

Really, MS's meddling could be what smacks Sony into shape thereby being a factor against Nintendo winning the genration. Gotta see how it plays out, but anyway I look at it I just can't see MS as being anything but a side factor in the grand scheme and a minor influence in the eventual winner.

Blue Dragon has an almost 45% attach rate in Japan.  The console may have failed, but the game is doing absolutely fantastically on it.

Who was the winner when Microsoft got the support from japanese developers? Sony lost again a good card, and games who could be million sellers in Japan in a PS3 (Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, even Viva Piñata) were only a good try for XBOX in that country.

Hum...

Viva Piñata is made by RARE who is English developer . . . . . .

Ureshikunai yo, kono yaro~~

^^ So? Japanese love those kind of games. Although surprisingly Dewy's adventure flopped big time there!

It is a hardcore game through and through. You will get your ass kicked by bosses. You will be stumped by the sometimes complex, but never overbearing, exploration.

I think microsoft views Sony as an enemy. With that said, I don't think microsoft likes Nintendo either. But there is an old saying- the enemy of my enemy is my friend. So thats probably why microsoft is making games for DS, but not PSP (viva pinata, diddy kong racing, ect)
I don't think microsoft is trying to let Nintendo win the console war though. I think they want to win, but more than winning, they want Sony to lose. In doing so, they have indirectly given Nintendo a very very good shot at victory.

@ soriku QFT

Microsoft wants to take out sony, then they want to go against nintendo(but it will never happen).

On topic. Yes. Heck MS basically told people to buy a Wii (Peter Moore any way). But this is more Nintendo's strategy of pitting the two against each other. Nintendo Execsdidn't know the Wii would be a success, but Nintendo Execs knew that the other two would lose money.

Nintendo does have a reputation for being ruthless for a reason.

Nintendo was backed into a corner and fought back the way it needed and should have.  Last year before the Wii was released and before the DS took off I called Nintendo the sleeping dragon of the games industry.  I saw the impending storm that Nintendo was about to unleash.  The storm was brewing for far too long and any Nintendo fan should have noticed what was happening.  There was a huge absence of games during 05 on Nintendo's console's.  Nintendo took most of the year to develop DS games and put together the Wii/start Wii software.  We've been reaping the benefits of 05 since last May.  Sure, a bunch of cube games got pushed back to be released on the Wii, but looking at a list of how many games Nintendo has in development you can easily see that there is probably a lot of finished product that Nintendo's purposely been sitting on and may continue to do so for awhile for both the DS and Wii.

Nintendo is toying right now...  The sleeping dragon is awake and it's looking to feed.
