Forums - Sales - PS3 Hardware Sales For Non-Entertainment Users?

We track sales not unique end users. A number of 360s are second purchases due to RROD(Mrstickball will bite my head off for mentioning it) but that doesnt matter a sale is a sale. I bought 4 PS2s.

Yes a sale is a sale. And I personally have purchased multiple PS3's and 360's. I'm just trying to see if anyone knows of anyone who tracks these numbers. 2 years ago I would have put it off knowing this as an unsubstantial distraction. But over those years I keep seeing more and more use of PS3's in this fashion. Sony's use of it for marketing and code development is not hurting them in my opinion.

But I am no longer of the opinion that # of consoles sold is as significant as the # of consoles that are viable in the market.

I don't care about Sony or Microsoft or Nintendo for their own sake. I care about this in how it applies to the % of consoles that can be viably sold to. I know RROD took out plenty of 360's so if anyone has %'s/#'s for them thats cool, but leave it for another thread.

And if numbers about failure rates and numbers concerning consoles for distributed computing can be combined than that would give publishers everywhere a more quasi-decent idea of their potential customer base.

So you're saying that the 360's attachement rate should be higher...

I think it's obvious the 360 has the best attach rate of this gen. 1st because it has a whole year more, this one is maths only. 2nd, because I think we all can admit that it's the harcore gamer system of choice this gen, and hardcore gamers buy a lot of games.

(Don't get me wrong, I think the PS3 should be harcore gamers system of choice, it's mine, but life did not made it so...)

Yes he is.

Since the PS3 is no longer the cheapest decent blu-ray player out there, future buyers should be more interested in games then blu-ray. Of course that could also explain the sales drop.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

PS3 is a little bit wasted for massively parallel computing, HDD, BD, USB ports aren't necessary for computing nodes and unnecessary HW sucks space and energy too and PS3 case doesn't fit well standard racks, so maybe PS3 are useful for quick preliminary studies, but to realize the actual supercomputers I guess it's better to use Cell computing nodes made just for that purpose.
