I think this will be next 'big thing' on consoles. Core players won't like it, but masses will like it. For me even current console games are way too simple. Simpler games = less time/money for development and currently thats what developers need.

Ahhhh no.  What developers need is to do take the Wii seriously and give the masses a game people want to play.

hmm...based on sales it's on-rail shooters, mini-games, and fitness games. Me? I just want fun games, thats what Developers should focus on. Not trying to just make a partculiar game for a genre...

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

Id would say yes there is a market for them on the wii, no way for the HD consoles.

There should be a few good ones in the next while. But they won't be the next big thing. It'd be nice if there was no 'big thing' on the Wii, just a wide variety of fun games in various genres.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I cant beleive I found this thread that was started back in 1992....

What this was created today? Wow. You know they could be making a comeback they have been getting strong sales as of late.

Its too soon man, Don't start making jokes about the Victorian fires and you don't bring up On Rails Shooters 30 minutes after another Wii develop has basically fucked up again.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

senortaco is right - EA is going to where the sales are and they can see that on rails is selling well on Wii. If they're cheaper and quicker to make then that's even better for third parties!

Finnbar is also right - The demographics that the HD consoles occupy just aren't going to go crazy for this and if the genre did take off it'd give Wii an even stronger market position.

Finally, I agree with Demotruk 100% - A broad library of titles is the most desirable thing that can happen and I hope that third parties get cracking with some of the underrepresented genres on Wii

I hope on rails games won't be developed in expense of the other genres.

I'd prefer to move the character manually any day.

Off topic @ Megaman79: Did you hear they had to change the slogan of the Melbourne Grand Prix from 'Melbourne All Fired Up' to Melbourne All Geared Up' That would have cost them a fortune but I guess it's a neccessary evil..

On-Rails shooters are the perfect "hardcore bridge title."
