Forums - Gaming - This generation the worst for JRPG?

Nope. I think The World Ends With You is the best JRPG I have ever played. Even better than Chrono Trigger. I was getting sick to death of the genre, so it's a real breath of fresh air.

BLASPHEMY!!

WOW soriku, devs should have gone with the tried and tested forumula of making great JRPG instead of experimenting and creating those train wrecks.

No one calls The World Ends With You a train wreck and gets away with it.  If you want to see a JRPG that was a trainwreck, then go on google and look up "Unlimited SaGa".

I loved Valkyria Chronicles and since I loved Tales of Sympohia and the Abyss, I guess I would love Tales of Vesperia.

Eternal Sonata, Disgaea 3, Enchanted Arms, Lost Oddesey and Blue Dragon on the hand are pretty generic and boring RPG's, which can enjoyble but nothing more.

I'd say let's wait till Final Fantasy XIII come's out.

Got yourself mixed up with MMORPG there buddy. Also you mentioned DQ X, do you understand how the release of flagship DQ and FF games work? DQ IX this fiscal year, FFXIII next fiscal year, Versus which has a huge budget 2011 and DQ X 2012.

Versus is a spin-off, and will not kick a mainline entry in a series back. It will probably release the same fiscal year as FFXIII.

Maybe it is because people are just bored with JRPGs because they haven't changed a bit. In fact, the boldest move JRPGs have done is try the Action RPG and some have done exceptionally well (Kingdom Hearts for example but of course it carries the Disney name with it) and also maybe JRPGs fans have moved to WRPGs. Just look at how they are doing sales wise, they're doing quite fantastic!

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PS3)

What are you looking at, nerd?

Not really.
IMO Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are masterpieces, I'm sure Tales of Vesperia is great as well (c'mon release it already in Europe) and Valkyria Chronicles is awesome (buying it next week or so)

The best is yet to come.

And I suppose FPSs changed a lot?  Seriously, how would they change JRPGs?  There have been attempted but they are often train wrecks(i.e. Unlimited SaGa)

No. This gen seems like a gen where devs try something new with RPGs. See: TWEWY, Inazuma Eleven, Sigma Harmonics, etc.

With the DS, everything is "trying something new". No gaming device had dualscreens before.

Are you kidding me? Perhaps both J-rpg's and W-rpg's are RPG's but they feel totally different and most J-rpg fans hate W-rpg's. Heck, a game like Onimusha Dawn of dreams has more in common with Final Final XII or any J-rpg than Oblivion.
