Roffle, a 7. It's cute that GameInformer is rating the game like Star Ocean doesn't transcend reviews. That also goes for the fanboys looking for a reason to bash this for being on 360.

Er....what?

Tranceding history and the world, a tale of stars and oceans eternally retold..

Exactly...

Only 7? I will not get it then.

I hope that was a joke.

Oh noes a 7 "I will not get it then":

Fallout 3, Killzone 2, Resident Evil 4 Wii

Oh noes a review below 7 "I will not get it then":

Uncharted, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Metroid Prime 3

Yeah don't go around comparing SO4 to those games just yet, main reason being this is the first score for SO4 from the rest while the other games you mentioned got a 70 but the rest being huge scores. If the rest of the reviews give the game high then you can go ahead with your sarcasm, not now though.

Talking about it aren't the first reviews normally the best?

Wow. I'm surprised by this review. 0_0

After reading the review I can understand why the scores. For instance the dialouge in that top screen shot and when he says you get promoted to captain after the other captain ....breaks his arm? I used to LOVE JRPGs but I've become more accustomed to WRPGs this gen. The combat in this game looks great and might redeem it but if I'm not playing a JRPG game for its story I should just go play Ninja Gaiden or DMC4...

That's the problem.  I thought companies had managed to improve their localization efforts.  But they haven't.  S-E are so inconsistent in quality of localizations.

Exactly, and there's no reason for it. Not even considering the review score, that page gave me all the information I need to know this game is worth a rent at most from me. I can't stand awful localization anymore. All your base are belong to us anyone?

S-E are better than they used to be at localization but they still need help.  Atlus USA could teach S-E a thing or two about making a good localization.

After Playing Persona 4, Atlus are localization king. THey really know what they are doing when they translate these games. I never feel as if I didn't get a joke or got lost because of odd frazings.

I dont trust JRPG reviews so much this gen. They seem to hate them. Yet I do believe the quality of JRPGs this gen is very small. JRPGs I have played this gen...

Disgaea 3
Lost Odyssey
Valkyria Chronicles
Persona 3
Persona 4

P3 and 4 are some of the best, followed closely by VC. These are flawless. I wish these JRPG makers would step their game up. SE, what happend to ye?

The reason Infinite Undiscovery was average was not because of the name, it was because of the gameplay, poor pacing, and general poor game design. I am still going to get this game, but I am not as excited as I would have been if tri-ace had not just made IU and it is getting average reviews (though that remains to be seen)

I actually thought the gameplay was the redeeming factor for IU. In my opinion, it was the dialogue, the fact that there were a handful of characters who were not developed AT ALL, and the very up and down voice work that killed the game.

On topic though, I agree with ClaudeLv250. Those who are bashing this game for a 7 (which most rational people would consider a good score), either are not a fan of the series, or are doing it out of spite. Plus, SO games have always had much higher player reception then critical reception.

That review was informative enough without the score. The score is what hinders otherwise good games from being as popular as they should be. It's sad that when a big release gets anything lower than a nine, we see half the idiots screaming that it should have been higher, and the other half screaming that the game isn't good. Pathetic.

Meh,The last Star Ocean was crap,so i wasnt really interested in this one.

a 7 isnt the greatest score, but its not bad.

SO3 had a slightly better critical reception than player reception if I'm correct.

BTW, what is considered "bad" dialogue?  I'm not exactly a writing expert so I wouldn't know.  I do know that Gears of War 2 had some cringe worthy dialogue.  Other than that though, I can't seem to figure out the difference between bad and good dialogue.

I will get it but I am a little dissapointed but I think White Knight will be the RPG I am waiting for

Kiss those dreams goodbye because WKC suffers from a mediocre story and a relative lack of eye candy(I'm referring to special effects in battles, not the graphics which are pretty damn good).  Not trying to hurt your feelings but just saying.
