Forums - Sales - So what are your views on Kill Zone 2s impact upon PS3 hardware sales?

I dont think it will be a system seller...

Primarily due to the fact that Killzone 1 did'nr get great reviews and was not picked up by a mass audience...so it doesnt have a HUGE fan base lets say as Halo?

Halo 1 did'nt sell many Xbox's back in the day...when Halo 2 was released Xbox numbers increased sales wise....then the real console seller Halo 3 was released and it sold 360's like hotcakes :p...

What Im trying to say is that in order for it to be a system seller it would have had to acquire a huge fanbase prior to this sequel

Halo 1 didn't sell many X-boxes? Xbox is the house that Halo built. I'd say out of Halo's 6.5 million or so sales, 5 million of those got Xbox BECAUSE of Halo. It's probably the biggest system seller of all time. It's hard to quantify the exact sales because of Halo, because it was a launch title... but I think most would agree.

I'm guessing it won't have much of an impact on hardware sales either. And why would it? It's just another HD shooter. For the rabid fanboys it's THE game that'll be the PS3's messiah and turn things around (yeah right, like all those other OMG B3ST G4M3 EVAHH!!!1 games before it). For everyone else, it's just meh.
Come on, if MGS4, GTAIV, LBP, Resistance 1 and 2, Killzone, Uncharted and all those others couldn't do it, why would this. It's not Halo.

Nintendo Network ID: Cheebee   3DS Code: 2320 - 6113 - 9046

Impact on avg weekly sales:
americas: enormous: shd push the avg to +20-30k range
europe: significant: shd push +10-20k
japan: negligible:2-4k

Im hoping sony have the goos sense to push in a $50 price cut but then again..

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

owner of : atari 2600, commodore 64, NES,gameboy,atari lynx, genesis, saturn,neogeo,DC,PS2,GC,X360, Wii

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

25K tops.

Only super franchises like MGS, Halo, FF and GT5 can move big amounts of HW in first week of release.

I don't think that KZ2 will have a huge impact. Sony should have cut the price of the console for the launch of the game ... But well, that's sony after all!

The only game that can take the 360 and put it on a level playing field with the Wii for a month

@Jereel Hunter and Cueil

Im talking about the original Halo...not Halo 3 on 360....and it was NOT a system seller on the same level as Halo 3....

Almost everyone that bought a 360 when it was first released was due to the fact that Halo 3 will be comming out for it at some time down the road...and then when Halo 3 was released 360's sales were huge! Thats a system seller...

Halo 1 did not have the same effect on people as Halo 3 did...why? because the Halo franchise had not established itself yet...and it did not have alot of fans...Prior to xbox's release I did'nt hear millions of people saying Oh I got to get an Xbox to play Halo...NO...it had to establish itse;f a fanbase first....and thats what Killzone failed to do with it's first game

And for people always hatin on the PS3 it's kind of sad...your missing out on some great games...LBP...MGS 4...Killzone 2...Uncharted....GOW 3....sad that you wont be able to play these games because you hate a company...

I love my 360 as much as I love my Ps3 and Im thankful I can play all the great games this generation has to offer

Given the precedents, the safe thing to say would be that impact on hw will be negligible.

Who knows tho, this market is unpredictable.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

If it's sold unbundled, no more than 250k on the first week. Bundled, it could repeat the sales spike caused by MGS4.

On the software side, MGS4 is a good reference on potential sales. If it repeats MGS' success, it could outsell it since the install base today is larger.

I know you mean Halo:CE, and it did have that effect. Maybe not at launch, but when the first people got Xbox's, and then played Halo at their friend's house, suddenly they needed an Xbox. This is a fact. It's why I got an xbox, its why my frineds got Xbox's. Halo:CE didn't make it's 6.5m sales in the first year. It was one of the top 25 selling video games of the year *4 years in a row*. It was an amazing game, and it continued selling consoles right up until Halo 2 took the torch. Honestly, no Halo:CE, I probably woul dnever have initially purchased an Xbox. It really made the Xbox a valid console choice until it's games lineup took off.
