Forums - Sales - The year so far..... how long can Sony stand this?

I wasnt being flippant.. it was a serious question.

So you are coming back when the Sony turns its sales around.... you made my point perfectly.

No, you've not grasped what I was saying.

I wouldn't leave because I don't like seeing poor Sony sales. I'd leave if threads of this nature are going to crop up every other day for the next 7 months.

Honestly, it's like Groundhog Day. VGC just keeps repeating itself ad nauseam.

PS3 is better than X360 last year, so situation is not that bad considering the system has yet to see a good pricecut and reach its sweet spot.

the market is 30% bigger than last year.....

2009 PS3 is 20% ahead of 2008 X360. If the market is 30% bigger and assuming a $100 pricecut on the Triple will have the same sales effect the Arcade X360 had last year, so it will grant PS3 a 56% increase over 2008 X360 thus selling around 15 million units this year meaning 34 million units sold at the beginning of 2010. Nice.

Really?

I mean people bitch and moan about these threads, why the hell are you participating then?

I think this site is flooded with Killzone 2 threads, thats fine though I just won't click on them. Stop moaning.

A price drop will further kill any chance of a profit from the PS3. Sony will only drop the price if they are desperate.

They should have dropped the price in November. Silly Sony. A price cut is needed real badly.

Did you see their financial statement?

We likely won't see a price cut until July. Slow months, so there won't be too much loss.

I think the ps3 is doing well considering. pluss i would take profit over market share. sony knows that when the ps3 does drop price, the 360 will never outsell it again. like i said in many threads, the 360 can only go so cheap. and when the ps3 is cheao and the 360 is cheap what are you going to buy.

a HD console or a HD-BLURAY console?

I know what i would pick, Sony knows this so the is no rush to cut price.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

thats what i feel also.

sony should only drop thier price when they have manufactured a ps3 to let it do so.

in the meantime ps3 will still be bought by consumers. and also in the meantime ps3 users get all the great games so its no loss as such for a gamer.

sony just like microsoft and nintendo dont think like fanboys do, they have to run a business, i know many people were laughing at a supposed 10 year plan, but microsoft and nintendo have already confirmed that this gen will be longer than previous gens. so plenty more years left yet for ps3 to hit affodable price.

with highly probable releases and surefired releases in 2009 like........... killzone 2 - mag - infamous - god of war 3 - yakuza 3 - new ratchet game - team ico game - heavy rain - dc universe or the agency - gt5 -  white knight - supercar challenge - quantum theory - socom - and many many other exclusive titles. not to mention the rockstar ps3 only exclusive brand new franchise that will be announced hopefully at e3...............theres all the games that a ps3 user could want.

i know ps3 could do better, but there beaten on price, hopefully this will teach sony a lesson that price means everything.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

I know that a price cut would have its disadventages, but unless it would make Sony crash, they must either make it, or axe the PS3.

Simple waiting leads to shrinking numbers, this can be seen from the last months. If everything stays this way, it will keep shrinking, so I predict monthly sales under 100k later this year, and holiday sales similar to current february sales.

Even if they would start making profit in 2010, their userbase would be so small that it wouldn't even cover a fragment of the earlier losses

I believe Sony's biggest concern should be the loss of 3rd party support.

HD games take something between 3-5 years to develop, correct? So, the games we are seeing being release now or in the near future, had their development started back in 2006. Now, let's look at the reality in 2006 where the decisions to create today's games were made, who would predict that Wii would capture virtually 50% of the market, followed by the 360 and with the PS3 struggling in 3rd. Nobody. People thought only the 360 and PS3 were worth the development costs and so, they decided to develop for them.

Now, let's see today: The Wii is the big winner and ignoring it means ignoring 50% of the install base. EA already woke up to this, others will follow. The 360 is maintaining it's position and the PS3 is losing market share. That is the problem: losing market share and with no signs of turning the situation around and it is also clear that any price cut by Sony can be answered immediatly by MS with a price cut since they can afford it.

The future does not look too good for Sony and even if they can turn this around, will 3rd party developers bet their companies' future on this? I doubt it. So, the consequences of today's situation will be felt by 2011, when the 10 years plan will hit the problem of fewer games to fuel sales.
