WHat? Being able to equip materia is one of the main facets of FFVII and an ability of Cloud's. If they cant do that then they should both be in a mud wrestling match butt naked becuase last time I checked you had to equip materia the same way you had to equip armor or weapons.

But we are talking about a one on one fight between Yuri and Cloud with them using there own strength not some summon.

summons in FFVII are materia/magical spells. They consume the characters MP, is that not of their own power?
Unless of course you are turning this into a pure swords fight.

Yes exactly

Wait, what? G-value and Forevercloud3000 are talking about summons in combat. Why would this limit yuri's ability to pull off 4 billion damage?
Anyway, cloud does have one thing over yuri. His ability to use magic, Yuri is purely arte's oriented. He has no magic to speak off, unless he uses gel's or rebirth. He also cannot heal any damage, Cloud can use magic spells and materia. Although while summons are a touchy subject. I'll have to say while yuri has the advantage in sword combat (He is far more agile and quick with his swords/katana's where cloud is more of a slower, heavy hitter. Plus yuri has ALOT more different sword artes vs cloud's attack-modifying materia and limit breaks). However, that being said. Due to cloud's magic he does have the advantage over yuri, heck. Using something simple such as Slow and Haste could turn the tide.
So combat-wise, I'll have to go with Cloud.
Story-wise however, Yuri is far better. I've heavily enjoyed yuri's story and the different means him and flynn went to achieve their goals. Really put a perspective on things, I won't spoil anything since many people havn't played tales of vesperia. But do yourself a favor, play tales of vesperia. Beat it, and you'll know why I beleive yuri is a better choice.
P.S - This is coming from the guy who has a final fantasy character as a avatar, obviously I perfer alot of the earlier final fantasy games over the tales of games. So there must have been something special in yuri if I'm choosing him over cloud. Wow o.o
Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

That was Yuri's Strength the only reason why Yuri was inflicting damage of one was because he had the skill equip to do so.Once the player took it off his power went back to normal

You did not like Tales Of Vesperia? And also Yuri has Guardain Field remember.Plus Yuri is good with his hands, you gotta love Brutal Fang

I heavily enjoyed tales of vesperia, one of the best tales series games of all time. (Ranked 3rd, under Phantasia and Symphonia). Although logically speaking, I think cloud has the advantage in combat. Due to his magic, which if RPG mechanics are any indication always trumps strength.
However, character development wise. I yuri's character is far superior.
