think the first halo halo:ce on the xbox until it started getting other games around when xboxlive started .... that game kept the xbox alive .... that is a system seller.... think FFVII a game which put a genera and a console on the map.

most of the time the have to be exclusives to qualify, and have such a pent up demand/hype for the game that its launch effects sales for months afterwards. honestly I dont think we have really had one this gen yet.... wii sports does not sell the wii, motion controls sell the wii.

honestly the wii has turned the concept on its head it has no system sellers. the wii is a software seller for nintendo

I STRONGLY disagree with that.

Wii Sports is the reason so many Wii consoles have sold. Do you think the mass market would have bought the Wii because it has motion controls or because they had a fun experience playing Wii Sports Tennis or Bowling or Golf?

I know quite a few people who also bought a Wii solely for Wii Fit.

If you honestly believe that hardware sells software and that software doesn't sell hardware then you're delusional

Usually when someone starts talking about they're actually just revealing they're a delusional fanboy.

If system sellers actually existed the Gamecube would have been on top last gen since it had some of the best games of last gen.

True, the rare game does exist that actually does something significant, but for the most part system sellers don't really exist and just a tool fanboys use for arguing what game is or is going to be the best.

So what do you say to the explosion of the DS after Nintendogs and Brain Training??

Also the GameCube didn't have system sellers - name a game that should have been a system seller on gamecube.

you break your own argument by including wii fit which is more hardware then software. and yes I do think it would be doing as well with a different pack in. wii sports is the beneficiary of being the choice, it could have easily be wii play or some other game. look at the sales of main line nintendo  games your going to tell me those are normally attachment numbers? then why didnt the cube or the 64 pull off that type of stunt

on top of this, with out motion controls there would not be wii sports or wii play

edit *because with out motion, and using traditional mechanics wii sports and wii play would be nothing but early last gen pedestrian games... the motion physics is what makes them unique

Without Wii Sports people wouldn't care what kind of controls the console has - Oh it has motion controls cool.. *Plays Wii Sports - Wow it's really fun!*

See the difference yet?

yet again you prove my point. I said  "with out" motion (controls was implied but maybe i believed to much in your deductive reasoning ) and using traditional mechanisms (say a non motion cotroller)   would be nothing but early last gen pedestrian games... the motion physics is what makes them unique ...

*edit* strike through sorry I miss read. I thought you were replying not going off on a retarded tangent. your assuming wii sports is selling the wii because of its high sales numbers, any bundled game can pull these numbers off. you would be far better suited to use non bundled games to prove you point. say mario kart, or super mario world. or a game where you can choose your control schema classic or motion. here all you have is a fun tech demo that requirers motion control

all of this shows that without the hardware that is currently in place wii sport would not sell

or to help you if it was called xbox 360 sports and you had to use a traditional control the game would have sucked and been forgotten

back to my original point of the wii  being a software seller, and title on it not being hardware movers. both wii fit, and wii sports are prime examples of this being the case

up for more of this or are you done sticking your foot in your mouth... edit mmmm my own foot tastes so good.. that replying without reading through a second or third time is tasty

System seller is the little thing that makes the difference : For me it was GRAW2-360 Bundle (the box art was sooo cool..).

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

Lets talk about Wii Fit for a start. Are you seriously suggesting that people bought the game for the balance board? Yes some may have to play more core games in the future based on the BB but the majority (95%) of people bought it for Wii Fit. The hardware was built around the software, it's just a means to allow people to interact with the software and the software is what people are interested in.

People don't buy Singstar because they're interested in the Microphone. They buy it because they're interested in singing along to their favourite songs - The microphone allows them to do that.

People don't buy the iPhone because it has a multitouch touch screen and an accelerometer. They buy it because you can interact with the system more easily than others and you can do things that simply aren't possible with other phones. It isn't the hardware that makes people say wow I want one - It's the software that uses the hardware.

I can't explain it any clearer really... If you disagree then we'll have to respect each others opinion on that...

Well for me The biggest system seller I ever witnessed is Super Mario Bros.

To me, from my perspective, Wii Sports is the reverse. I'm not saying people werent excited to play it, but I think 50 million people would've bought the Wii reguardless of the game packaged with it. It was the novelty of the system. When SMB came out it was the novelty of the game, where the screen actually moved!, that had people going and buying the system.

Uh other notables I would say a lot of people bought a PS2 early on waiting for MGS2. and perhaps the magic was doen again with Mario 64. I mean it and pilotwings were the only launch games and it was slow with the titles. So yeah Mario 64 sold units. I'm pretty sure Mario64 hit 1million units virtually same time as N64 hadware hit it. I think at the time 1 in 4 people bought Pilotwings and few thereafter.

Halo and XBOX seemed to go hand in hand to me, kinda hard to tell which sold which, but then again with as obnoxious as Halo Fanboys were, most non xbots didn't want to hear about it.

As much as I hate it Madden definatly sold systems, as Ive stated before I saw so many College dorm rooms with PS2s and a copy of Madden 2002 with Nothing else (sometimes not even DVD Movies). GTAIII had a similar effect.

Final Fantasy I think brought straglers to the respective system the series was on. Although an Insane sale at a place where I worked really sold the PS to me. Final Fantasy Tactics and certainly when FF Anthology came out, really could have done it themselves, along with MGS which I remember pushed a few itself.

I think Sonic Dazzled people with the Genesis in the begining but not as much as other big hits. but it did show off the power of the Genesis, ALMOST as if it were a gimmick *gasp. Heavens to Betsy did I just say that, but yeah it was still a good game, but ti did seem the logical display title cause of the speed

I doubt Virtua Fighter sold too many saturns

....... I think thats all I got

Halo 3 prolly pushed 360s before its street date.
