I'm still trying to make sense of this statement. Is there something happening between Sony and EA other than the framerate problems that we don't know about?

There have been roumers around that EA joined microsoft some how. I just cant confirm it, also lets get to soriku about the troll comment, speak for your self.

On topic: If it wasnt for the ps1, we wouldnt really be in this general area right now, not many people would actually be interested in video games. But if it wasnt for nintendo rejecting sony that would have never happened. Not saying sony made the industry what it is today(which it did) but if it wasnt for nintendo video games "might" not have existed in the first place.

mM

They have to make up crap, they're trying to impress the stockholders, who don't know jack shit about what's actually going on.

I'm reasonably sure that the Playstation did not create the demand for videogames in the older (expanding) game market nearly as much as it came in response to their demands ...

In 1990-1992 (or so) there was a growing population of teenager and young adult videogame players; many of them choose the PC or Genesis because Nintendo continued to focus their marketing on children in North America because they saw them as the core audience. At the time of the release of the Playstation, Sega was heavily targeting this market with the Saturn; the Saturn mainly failed because of Sega's mistakes (Sega CD, 32x, expensive Saturn).

Had the Playstation never existed one would assume that these gamers would have continued to play games on the Saturn or PC.

The main difference between Sony's accomplishment at expanding the market and Nintendo's more modern one is that many of the gamers Nintendo has recently captured had absolutely no interest in gaming before the DS or Wii came around ...

"Reeves said Sony’s “actually the one that broadened the market” even before the Wii and DS were introduced.

“We started EyeToy at the end of 2002, then we did SingStar in 2004 and Buzz in 2005,” he said."

Sure and the NES / SNES and Virtual Boy has "never ever" existed.

True Nes and SNES expanded the market but SONY did it to with the PS One and PS2

Virtual boy = Singstar and Eye toy?

Virtual boy = disaster

Singstar and Eye toy = Avarage succesfull/popular

“If [a price cut is] what they want to do in the US, fine… But we don’t need to do it in Europe."

No of course not, the Europeans are the richest people around the globe, that's why every person I come across and doesn't own a PS3 complains about the price and doesn't give a crap about the bundle, simply... because it ain't their type of games...

1 Sorry but what is wrong with you really serious   YOU KNOW that I know that you   know people who own a PS3 and bought that bundle,   It is not because people don't know you in real life you just can post bullshit.

@ Almost every person who post in this thread..

Do you guys really don't know that Sony is a business company?

Do you believe that all company's in the world tell the truths except Sony?

Didn't SEGA said that 32X an SEGA CD will be awesome and that Genesis does what Nintendo'nt ?

We know how that end.

Didn't Nintendo said that Virtual boy will be an awesome new sensation of gaming?

The only sensation gamers got was an headache.

And damned I could give a lot more arguments.

What do you guys do if their opens a gamestore in your street that haves on his window
'most games and best prices' when you know that their is a other gamestore in the street that haves more games and lower prices?   Are you guys going in that store and say ' OH
MY GOD YOU GUYS ARE SO ARROGANT AND STUPID IT IS NOT TRUE YOU GUYS ARE EXPENSIVE AND ......'

Guys sjeezes they call this 'PUBLICITY' please open a dictionary and search for the meaning of that word.

I consider myself pretty "on the pulse", and I didn't even hear about Singstar until it was mentioned in the E3 Sony conference in 2006. It's not as ground-breaking as they claim.

And this thread is the first I've ever heard of Buzz.

And you are from the USA, so there goes your post.  Those games are very euro oriented, market differences got to learn them all.

Sony largely expanded the market by simply keeping up w/ gamers as they got older. Their target audience was 20-30 something males who would have been gamers in their teens. They weren't going after seniors and soccer moms.

It's true... Sony marketed for the 19 - 30.  Last gen the average gamer age was 25 - 35yr male.  It is changing now but I think it will continue to grow with the similar age group.  I was 20 when I got my ps1 :) and being a gamer since I was 7 or so It becomes apart of your everyday life.  Same as the "Internets" - G.W.Bush j/ks

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

So let me get this straight.

Shoulder buttons, analog stick, rumble, motion sensing, etc...Nintendo never once whined about others following in their footsteps.

Social audience home console gaming.....Sony to everyone else, "But...but, we did it first!"

Then again, I'd say Nintendo still started it by putting 4 controller ports to the N64 and developing Mario Party.

I can't say anything about shoulder buttons, but every other feature listed was invented by someone else long before Nintendo even though of it.  Yes, I'm even including having 4 controller ports built into a system, as well.  And of those, only rumble is something that they may have used in video gaming first.  Just because you aren't old enough/don't know enough about gaming doesn't mean Nintendo invented those things.

They DID invent digital pads, but considering the current market and what existed before them it's almost fair to call it a step backwards on their part.  'Course, that was the brain child of Gunpei Yokoi who was fired for making the Virtual Boy...

Nintendo doesn't cry about being ripped off because, well, you can't rip something off from someone when it wasn't theirs to begin with.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Uh you can pretty much trace back the evolution of videogames to ACTUAL games, and then you can trace those back to the Olympics and before, even. All 3 current companies (and MANY past companies) have expanded the videogame market, so why complain?

I think sony is just saying, "Hey, remember the PS2??? Guys??"
