Is it really any surprise to learn that Street Fighter IV is an immediate success in Japan?
According to PS3Center, the hotly anticipated fighter sold a grand total of 86,000 copies on its first day of availability. It's also the best-selling PS3 fighter in the region (only by a slim margin over Soul Calibur IV) as the PS3 version sold around 58,000 copies. That's about 30,000 more than the 360 version but, well...it's Japan. There's little doubt that SFIV will be a sales success in other regions as well, especially given the probable review scores it'll drag in. IGN, who apparently doesn't have to concern themselves with embargo dates, has already posted their impressive 9.3 review, and we figure more will follow. Ours is right around the corner as well, and if you're wondering how the series handled the long-awaited transition from 2D to 3D, you should just relax. We won't drop any significant hints, but let's just say that things turned out very well. If you're a fan of the genre, and especially if you're an old-school SF fan, you just gotta consider a purchase.
Perhaps the only real question is: can SFIV, which is clearly designed to cater to the hardcore fighting fan, beat out last year's SCIV, which was obviously for the casual fighting fan? It's good enough, but...well, we'll just have to wait and see.
