Forums - Sony - Is GT5:P worth the $40?

Before I played Grid, I never realized how much fun racing sims are. I'm not really a car person (actually sorta the opposite) but I ended up buying it over MS:PR, and I still play it often. I played the demo so many times before I bought the full thing off my friend.

Now I'm thinking of getting Gran Turismo 5, but is it worth the money? The two things that really turn me off are the 6 tracks and lack of damage (though I heard an update is coming on the damage). But, it also has more cars than Grid. I also heard that Grid is abit of an arcade racer while GT5 is the real racing sim. I also reaaally like that it has split screen - I need more games with that.

For the people that've played both, what are some of the main differences? In GT5, does each track have different versions to choose from like in Grid? How's the customization? Like I said before I'm not a car person so this might sound stupid, but does GT5 have those open wheel/Forumla cars? I'm not really sure what they're called but they're fun as hell to drive in Grid.

I've never played a single GT game but I hear so much good about it, especially reaching worldwide fame. Does Prologue give you a good feel of what the past games were like?

So do you get your money's worth in terms of content, or is it something that appeals more to the hardcore fans? I'd probably just buy it now, but I'm currently trying to sell three of my games (R2, Fallout 3, and GTA4 for 360 which I don't have anymore) and I don't wanna have too many unused games on my hands. Now while I'm on the topic, quick question: does anyone know of a good place to sell games? I was thinking of trying Amazon. I'd rather not use Ebay - seems like a hassle.

Thanks for any help.

gt5p has a good selection of cars but the customization is nothing compared to grid. By no means is it bad, just nowhere near as good.

The 6 tracks can be be played in forward and reverse so you can count it as 6 or 12.

There is plenty of variation in style of racing ranging from; championships, time trials, overtaking, car/ manufacturer and power specifis races, drift challanges and a few more.

Online play is good fun and it had all sorts of scoring and leagues.

As an extra it also has gt:tv where you can download and watch programmes about cars such as top gear and many many more.

I think it's worth it. It's almost like a full game at half price. If you like driving sims, you cannot go wrong.

Yeah go for it! You won't regret, trust me!

Ouch. If the only customization in Grid is just color changes, what exacly can you do in GT5? I thought I read somewhere that there's things you can adjust to actually change a car's performance.

sorry, I thought grid had more customization. Yes, you can mid your car, but not with individual parts.

GT5 prolouge is just a demo of what you will get from GT5 so no dont buy it, wait till you get GT5 . that game will keep you busy till you get GT6 , cause GT is the best driving sim , it got that weird feel that make it good.

No, it is not worth paying for.

Don't listen to this Troll.  He's still pissed his mom bought him a Wii instead of a PS3.

The game is well worth it.  The full version may or may not be out this year.  If it does come out at the end of the year, GT5P will keep you happy untill then.

To answer the question about open wheel cars, it does have a Ferrari F1 car.

I dont regret buying my copy! oh and i second kjj4t9rdads reply, Hes litterly bashing every PS3 game ive seen XD well... ok not every but MGS4 and MGS4 is my life! lol
