i heard on n4g that sega maybe teaming up with sony to bring some of the dc games online. the 2 mentioned were crazi taxi and jet set radio i think.
if sega were to release their own console, they wouldn't have made yakuza, madworld and vc exclusives along with house of the dead.
sega does have several IPs:
virtua fighter
sonic
virtua cop
house of the dead
vc
yakuza
sega rally
shinobi
virtua tennis
samba de amigo
pso
space harrier
altered beast
streets of rage
these are just to name a few. IPs wont be a problem but the cost to make them will. sega's best bet is to either partner up with sony or nintendo, they will receive funding and support to create better products.

They don't have strong enough first party?
They have nothing going for them?
Thats harsh don't you think?
Franchises that Sega own........................
Condemned
Virtua fighter
Fighters megamix
House of the dead
Last bronx
Outrun
After burner
Shenmue
Virtua tennis
Sonic
Virtua cop
House of the dead
Ristar
Ecco
Fighting vipers
Space channel 5
Samba di amigo
Jet set radio
Ferrari F355 challenge
Streets of rage
Shinobi
Yakuza
Comix zone
Panzer dragoon
Altered beast
Daytonaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa USA
and many many more.................
Sega don't have strong 1st party?
Their 1st party trounces most companies 1st party franchises.
It sounds like they're going to make some arcade games to me. The author is stretching things quite a bit.
Also, I think that Sega has been doing extremely well as a developer recently and should continue to build on that momentum. Ironically, developing for their one time bitter rival, Nintendo, is working out extremely well for them.

Yea, half of those franchises are effectively dead, and wouldn't be any more of an advantage then as if they started a new IP.
You basically listed a list of Sega's former glory. They haven't created a great game in any of those franchises since the Genesis, and I don't see how that will change. It's not like once they have their own hardware, they can finally say, "Oh, I guess we should try now."
When I said their 1st party wasn't strong enough it was mainly refering to they don't have the talent to pump out AAA games like Nintendo, Sony, and even Microsoft.

Virtua tennis 2009........... coming may 2009
Virtua fighter 5............ like what, 18 months old?
Condemned 1 & 2 both this gen............ are they old too?
Yakuza 3........... 2009?
Sonic games making tonnes of money on various platforms................
I listed some old franchises yes, but to dismiss them the way you have is just plain wrong.
I just want to see Sega doing great games like they did for the DC or Genesis.
For me it seems Sega doesn't even have the money for a high budget game. A Shenmue III multiplat in a bundle with I and II to get more people interested would be great. Why no new Panzer Dragoon? A Streets of Rage - game with great graphics would be great as well. Or a Ecco for the Wii (would match target-group)...
I don't know what sega is doing right now. They are definately not doing what they are capeable of
Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

...I said half, not all. Altered Beast? That game was pretty average even in it's day. After Burner? Outrun? Last Bronx? Space Channel 5? You think the public cares about these franchises?
Condemned isn't a large franchise, it's get fairly well reviews and average sales. Same with Virtua Fighter.
Yakuza series is good, but has no impact outside of Japan.
Sonic Unleashed has been making "tonnes of money" because they are working with a 300 million userbase. The game recieved poor reviews, and considering what this series once was, sales are poor.

A lot of these games were on the two consoles that unfortunately failed for Sega due to Sonys moneyhatting/Financial muscle............ Last bronx could have done better on a more succesful console and games like Fighters megamix and Shenmue were fantastic but they were on consoles that were unfortunately "overlooked" hence poor sales...........
You have written off lots of Segas games despite many of them not even getting a Next gen makeover.
Isn't this just the MP3/Video player that Sega just released? I think game play was removed from it. It's only available now as a prize in UFO catchers at Sega arcades.
Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.
