Forums - PC - Windows 7 will only run 3 applications at once

Lol, some comments in this thread are hilarious.

MS most likely won't even offer starter edition for sale in countries where you live, maybe they will limit their sale in countries like china, india or african countries, for projects like OLPC or similar, where they will try to rival linux.

To the rest of you, you really don't have a clue what you're talking about.

Put your stupid little MS bias aside for one moment and understand the target of this version of windows. It's like the starter edition of Windows Vista, none of you even know anything about it so I don't expect well reasoned responses.

You prolly didn't even know that it was targeted at low powered devices the most likely can't open more than 3 apps and run smoothly. Yet you all jumped in with your mouths running.

Yeah well done.

Thanks for the insults.

Stop being so Patronizing.

How about being more useful next time instead of acting like you're the head of MS's OS development, hmm?

@ katilian Ok, I did not actually know the XP starter version was limited in that way. However, Windows 7 Starter does seem to be available worldwide

Dated 4h of Feb, 2009, we have this interview with a MS spokesperson
http://www.betanews.com/article/1233780812/comment/new/reply_to/1908701

Betanews: Will Home Basic still be available to customers outside of the emerging markets that Mike Ybarra mentioned, such as the US, Canada, and Western Europe?
Microsoft: No, Windows 7 Home Basic will be only available in emerging markets; however, Windows 7 Starter will be available worldwide.

It seems that fairly recently, MS changed Starter from 'emerging regions only' to 'available preinstalled on computers'

Baggins, Oh I'm sorry. I shall get over myself. It was silly of me to expect to be able to run 4 applications at once. Honestly, what was I thinking?

I predict more piracy if anything.

I wonder who's alt account baggins is? OT : For Misinformed consumers, this sucks

I always wondered if these "f*ck the poor" versions count also antivirus, antispyware and FW as apps, so that once launched what's necessary to keep Windows safe, you can't launch anymore productivity apps

According to a slashdot article, the cheapest version of Windows 7 willbe limited to opening 3 different applications at once, ie you could run itunes, firefox and ms word, but then would be unable to open anything else. Although apparently multiple windows from the one application only count towards 1

If true, and if it ends in the final release, this takes Windows 7 from 'one of MS's better programs' to 'an even bigger cock-up than Vista' in my eyes

Here's the thing you see......

Anyone DUMB ENOUGH to buy anything with the lowest version of windows be it Vista Basic or Windows 7 Starter shouldn't be allowed on a PC>

If people are that cheap that they don't want to pay out for a decent version they should learn2linux.

I would really like it if Microsoft just had one SKU (Windows 7 Ultimate) and went with that.

Windows 7 Starter is meant for the netbook market.
