Forums - Sony - What is so special about Killzone 2?

Okay, now people are saying it's worse than FEAR?

Annoying enough.

But comparing it to Haze? That is just extremely fanboyish.

The FEAR 2 demo was actually pretty cool. I was scared a few times. I would actually consider buying it. Not a first-day purchase, but still it will end up in my collection.

I was scared a few times too, but the rest of the time was spent being annoyed, bored, dead or any combination of the three.

Thought i would add to my earlier remarks that i changed the sensitivity on both axis by about 100% and changed controls from having fire as r1 to having as r2. I think that made a big difference for me.
I loved the demo but my only gripe now is Ricco seems a direct rip off of Cole Train, even looks abit like him. But all in all i can't wait for the game. It probably is nowhere near the best fps game ever and we will all argue our view points but games are about being fun and i think it is that in huge quantities.

@ Hryken

You do know that Rico existed BEFORE Cole Train correct?

I think that is a questionable remark. Cliffy said he had been working on Gears for three years so that would put it's start date at around 2003. KillZone 1 was also in 2003. However in Killzone 1 Rico was more like the guy who goes crazy from to much fighting. His persona and more importantly his acting is very very different from the few bits he speaks in the demo. He was more like Vasquez out of Aliens in  the first one hence his name, mixed with a bit of any of the crazy guys in any nam film. The sequel seems to have him talk in a different way in the bits when they crash at the start of the demo. He still swears a lot but his pronounciation of the words is very differen't. The thing is if you read some of the reviews your see i'm not alone in thinking that. Cole Train himself is based on various characters. The tough humorous ladies man.

End of the day, Rico was in a game years before Gears of War released, but this was moot to begin with. Does this REALLY matter?

Depends really on if you think copying detracts from the naritive. Seeing as he spoke like twice in the demo to say hold on and lets go i think it's a bit early to say he is a complete copy just yet :)

I agree kn. Killzone 2 is nothing special. I read all the impressions on the demo while I was at work, and when I downloaded it and finished it, I ROFL'ed. It felt like playing just another average shooter. It wasn't the most amazing shooter ever. The demo didn't left me with the expression of wanting more. Graphics were okay, not as great as the screenshots or videos.

The BioShock demo was amazing, and it made me want more. Fear 2 left me with a good impression, so did Skate 2 and Valkyria, but KZ2....nah.

Fear 2?  Surely you're joking right.  I play Fear 2 and I feel like it's an N64 game.  The textures are absolutely atrocious.  The gameplay is bland and boring.   Honestly,  you must not be a big shooter fan if you honestly enjoyed Fear 2's demo more than KZ2.

I just don't see how anyone could remotely have that opinion.

I'm sorry that I didn't like the "best shooter ever" demo. It was just average, imo. Nothing spectacular about it. It was just shoot and cover. I kept hearing the KZ2 demo had the most amazing graphics, but I don't see it honestly. MGS4 looks miles better. Don't tell me I have a shit TV because I own a 32' Bravia and a 40' Samsung. I liked the FEAR 2 demo. The atmosphere is great and made me jump a few times. I even got to read a cool armored vehicle. You certainly don't see that in KZ2.

kz2 also has veihicle section in full game

it really isn't anything special.. id much rather play the conduit.

That might be a great cliched tag line people could use in reference to any game.  Has ANYONE here actually played The Conduit?

In regards to KZ2, it appears to be a well executed FPS that is an exclusive PS3 FPS.  This should be enough.  Not sure if everyone should expect it to be the end all and be all.

I can see you thinking the controls were poor, as "poor controls" is now by definition "not CoD4", but how on earth was the AI anything but fantastic?

i cant think of any fps controls that i thought were worse.  i dont play a whole lot of fps...so i guess there could be some out there.

and cant think of another word for an enemy who throws a grenade at a wall right next to him...not even in my direction...then runs to another piece of cover....i shoot him once...he then turns around and starts running into a wall.  some other small annoyances, but that really stuck out to me.

Well, I have done that.  Now you know why I don't generally play online against other people.
